Is Brayden Burries the Guard EVERY NBA Team Wants? Plus, His Current NBA Comps

Is Brayden Burries the guard the Dallas Mavericks should target in the upcoming NBA Draft? How would adding Burries alongside Kyrie Irving impact the Mavs as they look to build around stars and potentially pursue talents like Cooper Flagg in the future? This episode breaks down Brayden Burries’ skill set, NBA readiness, and fit within the Dallas Mavericks, plus how he stacks up next to other draft prospects.

Isaac Harris, who has covered the Mavs for a decade, examines Brayden Burries’ journey, Arizona’s stacked squad, and draft concerns like positional fit and playmaking. Other NBA Draft prospects discussed include Keaton Wagler, Darius Acuff, Mikel Brown, Kingston Flemings, and Labaron Philon, with team mentions like Michigan, Alabama, BYU, and Houston. Listeners get a deep dive into what separates Burries from guards such as Quentin Grimes, with comparisons to current NBA players like Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Malcolm Brogdon, Andrew Nembhard, Bruce Brown, Derrick White, and Jalen Suggs.

  1. So Burries is on a team where he isn't the top scoring option(Koa Peat) and is 5 deep. He is an efficient scorer. He is a great passer and good defender. I would put him on same level as Wagler, Flemings, Philon and Acuff for sure. I think he may be the best complete all around player.

  2. Burries is the best fit at the guard spot… can play on ball or off.. competent lead guard that can defend… great fit with kyrie and cooper.. knows what winning looks like., etc.

  3. Both he and Lendeborg are among the most complete players in the draft imho and . I'd be glad to have either one. Maybe Lendeborg is a lot like Washington, but you could consider a trade there. Burries would be healthy competition for Christie. Don't see a downside.

  4. Our 2nd first round pick is going to be very interesting, A player like this could def be available

  5. Dallas will either be 1-4 or 6-10.
Lots of great options but let’s see if Dallas can find a way to get two of these guys.
That would be the GM’s job and currently we might have the assets to get it done and build around those five young guys (the two picks, Flagg, Lively and Christie).
Kyrie will be a great bridge to the future of Mavs ball.
We will be good now but a lot better later.

  6. Kidd wants size tht was not Nico Kidd wants length in his players He will not Draft anything 6ft 6inches. KYRIE is the exception and he plays bigger than he is

  7. Age absolutely matters, imo. I think you have to sort of ignore the history of how prospects who enter the league at 21 or older tend to miss more than hit in the past 15 or so years.

Now that said, if I'm gonna be a glass half full guy on Burries, I do think older guard prospects tend to hit a little more in the draft than bigs. I just don't know if you can justify taking a roll of the dice on guys like Burries if you're picking in the top half of the lottery.

Like I would genuinely have a hard time justifying taking him over Ament given the age gap and ceiling potential.

And this is sort of the interesting thing about this class in general, cause I do think we could have a depth mirage going based on how many older guys seem to be slotted in that 10-20 range vs previous years. There are a lot of dudes who are gonna be 21 their rookie season projected to go 10-30, and it'll be interesting to see if we see a lot of guys bust out of the league on their rookie deals cause they just can't cut it and teams look at their age and just don't think it's worth a second contract.

  8. I want a potential all star not a complementary player. I want a player that will compete with Cooper as the best player on the team point blank period. These guys are young they can figure out how to play together and figure out what thier roles are. Good competition on a team helps raise the bar. IDC we need to go BPA everybody on our team is basically expendable.

  9. I’m tired of the Darius Acuff slander the man is playing 45 mins and is handling the ball 90% of the time and is the main scorer on the team. If he comes to the Mavs he won’t have that problem.

  10. I have no idea who is going to pan out from this draft. They say it is the best draft in years, but there is so much debate about the players. That tells me all these players could go either way. Dallas needs game changers or they will end up like the Pelicans. The Pelicans have a lot of good individual players, but they never really win. The Pelicans have six players that most teams would really want on their team. The problem is those 6 players can't win on their own team! Dallas needs a point guard. They need to be laser-focused on that. You can't have a team of 12 forwards and think you are going to win anything.

  11. Curious is anyone willing to trade a future 1st, 30th pick, this year 2nd and Gafford for this year Warriors pick?

Warriors are projected to draft at no.11, but obviously they have a chance at moving up, but let's just say for argument sake, Warriors stay at no.11, would you do it?

Having two picks with both being in top 11 could very well set your backcourt for the future where you'll probably won't have to worry about guards for a longtime

  12. I just saw Derek Lively at the store still wearing a boot. Mavs may want to consider a center with the 29/30th pick

  13. Good breakdown. I’d pushback on him being a three level scorer though. From what I’ve seen he’s either getting to the rim (which he’s very good at) or shooting a three.
