the new owner is a financial investor. Does the Blazers organization turn a considerable profit ?? If that answer is YES … then Blazer fans who constantly harp about sweeping changes in management, coaching staff, and roster construction… will probably be disappointed with the owner.
I'm not a Tiago fan, but I'm not dumb enough to blame him for the state of the team. When a new head coach comes on, they bring in their own staff. They have the opportunity to hire guys to cover their weaknesses and play up their strengths. Like Dan Marang pointed out, we got two elite coaching prospects on our bench right now that everyone in the NBA wanted, one of those is Tiago. He hasn't had a remotely healthy team, he hasn't had any of the opportunities a head coach actually receives, but he has taken all the criticism and none of the praise for the team and several players significantly out-performing expectations. I'd like to see Tiago get a real chance, with his own staff before making a decision. In the end, it really is a question of personnel. Which is why it's idiotic for people to be demanding Tiago get them to the 2nd round of the playoffs. If by some miracle he did it, he wouldn't have the personnel to replicate it next year when teams like Utah get their players healthy and add in their lotter pick. We need our pick this year specifically bc any pick we make the next 2yrs, even if we get the number 1 pick in both of those drafts, isn't likely to be as good as the 14th pick in this draft. So give Tiago his own staff, a healthy team with Dame, and a lottery pick from this draft and we are likely solidly in the playoffs for the next 3yrs at least. Then we start getting those Milwaukee picks and we are likely to be contenders for the next 5yrs.
This team as constructed will never make the WCF. We are 2-3 pieces away, and that has nothing to do with the coaching.
