The most unusual young player the NBA has seen in years

Bennedict Mathurin, the former 6th overall pick of the 2022 NBA draft, got traded to the Clippers at the deadline. The Pacers drafted him and observed him for 3 years but realized they didn’t want to commit to him, but why? Let’s take a look.

  1. As a Pacers fan, I’d like to point out a few inaccuracies in this video.
・he isn’t just trying to draw fouls. With the Pacers, he often drew fouls that weren’t called. With the Clippers, for some reason, they’re consistently being called.
・He wasn’t just focused on scoring; he also showed a desire to improve his defense. The gap between him and his counterparts, Nembhard and Aaron, was simply too wide.
・he don’t jump with full force when dunking, but I do jump with full force when blocking shots or grabbing rebounds. I’m not sure why.
・He’s been dealing with an injury to his toe for most of this season. When he was healthy, he was in great form and his shots were falling.
・He’s not on the same level as Cam Thomas.

  2. As a long time clippers fan that basically watches every game Mathurim has been a absolute gem for the clips, I think it was the fact the Indiana needed him to step up and fit into a system, being on the clippers doesn’t force him to be a scoring option straight away which takes the pressure off of him and allows him to get the buckets he’s been getting he just had a 28 point game and has been playing really good

  3. Great analysis it seems he is too stubborn and selfish not sure who on Clips can change this. Best chance would be one of Clips coaches to make this their mission how hard can it be to get a guy to pass more? This is best basketball league in world so don't waste this guy. But blogger is correct don't give him contract yet.

  4. As a season ticket holding, long time Clipper fan…..I disagree with the “love/hate” narrative. Ben has been incredible for us on BOTH ends. Are there things to improve??? Of course. What player can’t?? What person in general?! The “foul baiter” thing is hilarious. I never thought of him as a “foul baiter” in Indianapolis and still don’t. It’s hard to play for the franchise and get a favorable whistle so if he does, I’m all for it!!

  5. He's a dawg and comes up big on the big stage. He does make a lot of mistakes. But you just got to take the good and the bad with him. He's not a perfect player. The key is to always have him play with energy and fire… and I think a coach like Tye Lue that gives him confidence will help that. In a slowed down Playoff style, he is definitely a Net Positive for any team and was so for the Pacers in the Playoffs last year. No one talks about how much it hurts the opposing team when you draw 7 / 8 fouls per game like that and put them quickly in the bonus. Math is very valuable to any team.

  6. Dude is the TRUTH he's going to soak up a ton from Kawhai Coach Lue and Kris Dunn and learn to fix his errors he's been nothing but a good team player his ball handling skills need the most work he's willing to learn and wants to win he's got a tremendous future in LA, Clippers GM is trying to get him to re-sign 4 a low price I hope they pay him because Mathurin, Garland, Sanders, Jordan Miller and Konan-Neiderhauser are all great young pieces for a Solid Future

  7. He should learn a lot from Kawhi like a sponge. Can actually perfect his playing style with what he learns from Kawhi.

  8. Indiana did not give up on him. They chose to tank and compete again when Tyrese recovers. Indiana won't waste 1 year of Mathurin. It's a trade for the better.

  9. As someone who played with Mathurin back in elementary school, it’s been drilled into our minds real young to always try to draw a foul. Not bait a foul but… yk, we’ve be taught to drive a lot. I don’t really know how to explain this well but, I see it in his game. He kept this habit from way back. But also I can see why it is frustrating to watch sometimes.

  10. Mauthrin is a baller and a future all star. Anybody who's watched him extensively knows hes a dog, a winner and a much better teammate and hes represented in this video.

  11. as a longtime Pacers fan, Benn was one of the most talented dudes I’ve seen but he’s not a quick processor. He likes to stop the ball and take his man 1 on 1 and while it does add an interesting element to a team that needs bucket getters when the offense is slowing down, it didn’t work in Carlisle’s system
