Games like this to the show and expose Nick Nurse, unfortunately for his limited ability to deal with adjustments to his offense. A common theme with the Sixers roster is they are often and undersize lineup on the court.
With all their great ability to put up points with elite offensive scores and shooters, the elephant in the living room is the Sixers roster is an guard head lineup with undersize players
Without a B the Sixers often are three and four guard deep and a lineup with zero room protection and rebounding. So it would be to nurses benefit to do some self scouting and understand the limitations to his preference of small ball.
Those small ball lineups have limited the Sixers ability to have success versus a late teams because this coach refuses to put multiple long athletic players in his front court.
It’s not the Drummond and Embiid lineup that he needs that can work and I was glad to see him give it a shot. But the real adjustment should be Drummond and Bona in the second unit with VJ and Grimes as a bench unit that could not only protect the lead, but maybe even build one versus other team second unit.
I still believe Kelly Obringer should be the starter over BJ allowing VJ at this stage of his rookie year to exploit second units alongside Grimes. They play very well together as a backward. Meanwhile, Kelly and Paul creates such a difficult 3&D wing presence that the Sixers could attack almost any team with that defense in the east.
AGAIN, BARLOW, PAUL, AND KELLY ARE THE KEY PLAYERS FROM A DEFENSIVE STANDPOINT THAT WILL MAKE THE DIFFERENCE IN THE SIXERS PLAYOFF RUN. Nurse has to respect the length and size that he will see from these teams in the playoffs.
Maxey is a defensive liability. Maxey and VJ creates a smaller presence as a back court which allows guards and big wings Tatum, Brown, Ball, Alexander-Walker and others to exploit their length versus their size.
For the Sixers Kelly and Paul had the length and the athleticism to flip the script when it comes to 3&D wings
You can tell they want Morey gone.
