Andrew Bogut on Steve Kerr’s Return and the Warriors’ Future
Andrew Bogut is back — and he’s not pulling punches. The former Warriors center joins Willard & Dibs on 95.7 The Game to give his unfiltered take on where the Golden State Warriors stand right now, and honestly? It’s a reality check Dub Nation needs to hear.
Bogut breaks down why the Warriors are essentially cap-trapped and can’t make big moves, why he’s firmly against tanking (and uses Philadelphia as a cautionary tale), and what he really thinks about the idea of LeBron James coming to Golden State. Spoiler: he doesn’t think it moves the needle. He also weighs in on the Giannis trade rumors, defends Steve Kerr’s legacy in a big way, and shares a legendary behind-the-scenes story about the 2015 Western Conference Finals and the Tony Allen chess move that changed the series.
Oh — and Bogut just won a championship as an assistant coach in Australia. The man is 1-for-1.
Topics discussed include:
The Warriors’ salary cap situation and why they’re limited this offseason
Why Bogut is against tanking — and thinks the NBA should reform the lottery even more
LeBron James joining the Warriors: good idea or overhyped?
Where Giannis should land and what kind of roster he needs
Steve Kerr’s real value — and why people who say “anyone could coach those teams” are wrong
The iconic Tony Allen game plan from the 2015 Memphis series
Bogut coaching the Sydney Kings to an Australian championship
The evolution of the big man in the modern NBA
Would the Warriors be better off tanking for a top pick — or staying competitive with Steph? Drop your take in the comments.

We don’t HAVE a future with Kerr, at least not a bright one. Guaranteed play in team for the next 2 years
Let's call it what it is. Management is in the milk it phase.
The key is the draft…draft yaxel lendenborg and do a pick swap with okc and get Cameron carr giving more support to the vets for strengthening our young core; and also drafting tahaad pettiford or Keyshawn hall..
Without stocking young talent you can't trade for better players. Warriors suck at asset management. It's not called tanking, it's called having tradeable assets. The warriors deserve this dumpster fire for not accumulating any assets. No one wants their young players. The warriors management failed to understand to compete you need young assets, loser warriors
The combination of Bogut and Iguodala was such an underrated tandem of defense and IQ for our team. Bogut is the most underrated player of the Warriors dynasty.
Keeping Steve Kerr is the worst move in NBA HISTORY!!!!!
It just seems like such a waste of 2 seasons to being Kerr back, just like he has wasted the 3 previous seasons for Curry. Unless by chance there is a change in coaching philosophy and roster changes.
Should of asked him why he lied about Alex toohey
Kerr will destroy Curry's final 2 years with the Warriors. Worse he will destroy the Warriors young talents like he did before, and destroy Warriors future for the next decade.
Morez or graves should be our pick. Don’t see the point in yaxel, has never thought to shoot a 3
If they can get Dray and Steph to take a little less than they could free up some money to maybe bring another star.
Bogut was the last true big man the Warriors have had. If we could find another center of his mold, he'd be the perfect fit. A big man who can not only rim protect, guard any center in the league, but also be a Ln excellent passer from the low post/high post. They don't need a scorer. Just someone to anchor the defense and get Steph the ball on offense.
Salute to the Big Aussie! 🫡
If I'm GSW I'm waiving all players that are unnecessarily taking up salary cap space and the remaining guaranteed contract is a lower dollar amount. Then I'd resort to the Stretch Provision to stretch the payments to those players out longer to lessen the immediate salary cap hit. For the ones that we'd want to keep I'd just make them Affiliate Players and send them to the G-League if I like them and want the opportunity to rejoin the team. Simpler than that, Draymond needs to decline player option and take a big pay cut (cannot pay him $27.7 million), let KP walk (that clears $30 million), Al Horford needs to take a pay cut, trade Podz (they won't do it). Once the team is restructured properly, then comes in the coaching philosophy changes, the main one is DITCH SMALL BALL, its over!!! Get a legit center not an old vet, a solid 4+ year player, add some legit 3 and D wings for the perimeter to complement Steph. Focusing on all of this could have them as a top 5 seed rather than a play-in squad. It's simpler than they make it out to be, they just don't want to make the executive decision to do so and look for other methods to help, it none of those options are legit.
Bogut said something most people missed “were they championship ready pre KD.” Everyone says oh Mark Jackson made this team. Sure he gave them a solid foundation but could he get them over the hump. This was like Magic first chip no one was thinking about Pat Riley but he won.
Steve Kerr damage control 101. Nice job guys
