If Thibs want to maximize the winning of the team, Hartenstein has to play significant minutes with Julius Randle.. It is what it is.. He needs that spacing at the 5. So does RJ..
Julius strength is the low post and going down hill.. But knick fans wouldn't know that because since being a knick, the paint is always clogged..
I thought Brunson may be enough to space the floor for Julius but in that 3rd quarter when I seen 3 defenders lunge at Julius while he was driving to the basket.. He found Brunson open in the corner for 3… Okay cool but…
in the grand scheme of the team.. You want Randle, RJ , Brunson with spacing to attack the basket & either finish or get fouled.. We get to set our defense this way.
Even if they get to the basket and miss… It's still easier to set your defense when you miss at the basket vs long rebounds & other teams start leaking out for easier baskets.
Randle, RJ , & Brunson need that stretch 5.. Now Mitch can still start but depending on how the game looks… Mitch may need to play chunk of his minutes with the bench. Hartenstein may need to close games too.
It's on Thibs though. He has the pieces to succeed. It's up to him to use them right. We can't have another season of Julius not having spacing, depending on jumpshots
