as a NUMBER 1 DRAFT PICK, you are EXPECTED to get better. Your prize of getting better when it’s expected should be MVPs or Rings.
Leave the MIP for generally unknown players who legit worked their asses off and made themselves known. Giannis for example. No one, except for maybe the most hardcore basketball enthusiasts and bucks fans batted an eye when he got drafted. Giannis worked hard and made himself into a franchise player that won multiple MVPs, Defensive player of the year, a champion and Finals MVP. THAT is a Most Improved Player.
Give it to people which last season barely got minutes or only got minutes in Garbage time and made themselves a solid and crucial part of the rotation. THAT is MIP caliber. Give it to the bench players who might start for the first time this season and is able to elevate themselves to a starter level. THAT is MIP caliber.
He needs more time to come out. Should be fully ready to embrace himself once the season gets started.
