    Context: The reason why they cut it off at 2004 is because they were consistently in the tax pre-04, trying to contend with Vince Carter before he left the Raptors high and dry. MLSE will dip in to the tax for a contending team but this one is not there just yet.

    >I understand the point here but it’s worth the context that there were several competitive years where the tax wasn’t even plausible because of the CBA dynamics at play. And then a long stretch of them just being real bad. Only a couple times they’ve β€œducked” the tax.
