They do. But it’s also as equally important that they do so with the support of the players union. They need to be united on this.

I will tell Sir. Mr. Hail Adam Diamond Silver

  3. swallowedbymonsters

What’s the obsession with trying to make a grown man say some shit he doesn’t want to? “Say this exactly how I want you to or I’ll harass and suspend you”..fuck outta here with this.

  4. anonymousloverboy

The mods here should hand him a lengthy ban

  5. HokageEzio

Kyrie is one more press conference away from saying not all of Hitler’s ideas were bad.

  6. DontTedOnMe

Can someone please just ask this moron straight up if he thinks the Holocaust is a lie? I feel like forcing him to take a position on it would really clarify what’s happening here. If he says no, there goes most of his “army.” If he says yes or refuses to respond, it makes the NBA’s job a lot easier.

Why suspend? Just ban him and let the Nets free the sal cap

What Kyrie did wasn’t good and his refusal to take accountability is worse. But suspending/firing players for speech on matters of public concern is such an insanely bad idea—which is why it’s illegal in many places, even for private employers.

If Kyrie is disciplined for speech that doesn’t rise to the level of a hostile work environment or harassment, and I don’t think this does, it’s a terrible precedent. Some folks think that “Black Lives Matter” is hate speech. Some folks think criticism of the police is hate speech. Those people are wrong, but think about the NBA’s response to the Morey/Hong Kong stuff and ask yourself if you trust the NBA to be the arbiter of what speech is OK and what speech isn’t.

Edit: I promise y’all I know the first amendment only applies to the government. [States can and have expanded speech protections to private employees](https://old.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/ylflk0/_/iuyajbh).

  9. “For knowing his history.” There’s zero chance you or Kyrie ever got higher than a C in any history class dating back to middle school

I think Kyrie has put them in a position where they pretty much need to. At this point you either shrug and say “Kyrie is entitled to his beliefs,” which is a whole new issue for the NBA, or you make an example out of him.

  11. woo_back

This sub and twitter/insta is night and day lmao

  12. neutron_uplink

Better question – why doesn’t Kyrie just start his own League?

If he’s so concerned about who does and doesn’t have power then it only makes sense for him to go out on his own and fund a league.

  13. supermegabussin

He thinks his religion is being attacked and I think suspending him will make him the martyr he wants to be. There are no good answers to this situation. The dude stubborn af.

  14. Alex_Sander077

Hpw you going to suspend a player for a tweet lmao

  15. FreeMoviesDotArgghh

Fuck a suspension. Just kick him the fuck out. If this was a white dude saying/posting racist shit about black people they would have been banned immediately. Fuck the NBA for being so soft on this bitch.

  16. SonofNamek

I mean, if they do it without pay, it’d mean something.

But Kyrie previously sat out, just fine.

  17. Calling for Kyrie to be suspended is fine, but you should have done this day 1, not day 7.

The media is upset Kyrie isn’t capitulating to their demands, not because of his views.

  18. fucktarded9000

Didn’t he just join the ADL and saw he doesn’t hate the jews tho?

  19. MileHighCam

I mean he absolutely should be relieved of any and all duties as the VP of the players association… can’t have this guy representing the entire league and in a way, he is…

He should be suspended until the new year at minimum and they should really consider letting him go from the league entirely and put him in a position to apply for a reinstatement after some time away, at least an attempt at showing remorse, and possibly even simply to see if he doesn’t do some other dumb shit in the meantime

  20. I doubt this helps, all the backlash or suspensions will only further his beliefs.

  21. bradpittisnorton

I feel like team owners, and at least some players would like to institute something in the next CBA to prevent something like this from happening again. As for him, yeah, he should be either suspended from the league or released by the team, terminating his contract.

  22. ham_bulu

If they don’t kick him, the NBA will have to rewrite its values, change its face and lose a lot of fans.

If they kick him, a whole lot of players will turn out to somehow have a problem with it, and I suspect these will not only be role players, maybe even some faces of the league at the end of their careers who had their paydays.

No matter what, Kyrie is the end of the NBA as we know it.

  23. popcrnshower

I don’t buy any of this until the NBA condemns china for human rights violations.
