Too close for comfort but nice win
Another back and forth affair after the C’s gave up a double digit 3rd Quarter lead. It is really tiring how predictable it is that this team will let go of the rope when up 12+ in the 3rd Quarter. A win is a win, but the same pattern as last season is there where this team just doesn’t seem to be able to step on the other team’s throat and put them away in the 3rd. Maybe Rob coming back will help with this team’s energy levels. Anyway, some other thoughts…
-The late 4th Quarter offense was putrid. I have no other way to put it. I am very tired of watching this team just shit the bed on offense in clutch situations. They once again barely survived the final 5 minutes. This team needs to get better looks late
-The defense was really up-and-down, but in the 2nd the C’s only gave up 20 and in the 4th they only gave up 21. Need more defensive quarters like the 2nd and 4th and fewer like the 1st and 3rd
-It was good to see Tatum shake himself out of that early shooting funk. He started off just 2/6 and 0/4 from 3, finished 12/25, and hit 3 of his next 7 3 point attempts. In past seasons Tatum has struggled to break out of early game shooting funks, but he seems to be doing a much better job about that this season. He’s also now averaging 8.8 FTAs a game this season, way up from last season when he averaged 6.2 FTAs
-Brown and Brogdon need to be better. They combined to shoot just 11/32 overall tonight. The C’s pulled out the win regardless, but you aren’t gonna win many games when your #2 and #3 scorers can’t find the bottom of the net
-I thought the Celtics got away from the ball movement for long stretches, especially in the 3rd Quarter, but still finished with 26 assists which is a solid number(would be top 10 for APG this season by team). 15 turnovers is too many though
-Speaking of assists, Smart with a new career high in assists over a 2 game span with 23 after 11 vs the Knicks and 12 vs the Grizzlies tonight
Ugly fucking finish. Win’s a win I guess. I woulda been pissed if Tatum ended up getting injured over this shit.
