Nice of DeAndre Jordan to let his teammates shine a bit

    Analytics yay!

I think Bones is a fairly unique player in many aspects, but one that is particularly quirky is that his bad games feel worse than they actually are. Now, the main reason I say this is that first and foremost, he still is rating as an efficient player overall. He was efficient last season and he’s been efficient this season.

Charting Bones’ usage in this early season has been astounding. [Seriously, check it out!](https://www.nba.com/stats/players/usage?CF=MIN*G*100) It’s a list of some of the greatest talents in the game and Bones Hyland. Now, he’s not nearly as efficient as those MVPs and All-Stars, but he’s not inefficient *and* he’s much earlier in his career.

Think about it, I think most people would say they’ve been neutral or slightly disappointed by Bones so far this season, when you look at a list like that, it really puts into perspective how often our “eye tests” can mislead us.

That efficiency is greatly buoyed by his phenomenal three point shooting. The natural efficiency AND rating as a good-to-great shooter differentiate him from traditional 6MOTY players like Crawford, Clarkson, and Lou Williams.

Bones is not, and has never been, a “chucker”. The efficiency he has carried at every level pushes back on this idea. The fact of the matter is, when you take 30 foot three point shots, you miss more often than you make. The problem is, if you’re making them at a rate of ~40%, it’s a *phenomenal* shot.

He was certainly more balanced last season, but two important things to note is that it’s been a small sample size WITH him missing games and the other is that he’s a second year player that is expected to be the offensive engine of the team whenever he’s not sharing the court with Jokic or Murray, which is most of the time. This also means that most of the time, he has zero to one other above average offensive player on the court with him. That’s a ton of focus and pressure on a young PG.

Last I checked 538 doesn’t have us finishing in the top 6 in the west. Hope their model is way off this year
