The Toronto Raptors are facing a huge issue with a player that should not be giving them issues. Reigning NBA rookie of the year Scottie Barnes is in the midst of what can simply be put as a sophomore slump. Not only has the player struggled to shoot the ball, score in any way or limit his turnovers, but he is also showing an unwillingness to play on court, especially with his effort on defense. It got so bad yesterday as the Raptors were blown out by the New Orleans Pelicans that shortly after the start of the second half the player was benched for the rest of the game and finished with 4 points on 1/7 shooting in 21 minutes. This is not the first time that Nick Nurse has gotten a bad game from Barnes, in fact far from it. This might however be the most disengaged and lethargic he has looked, allowing Pelicans players to drive by him with ease and an extreme lack of resistance.
This is giving the Raptors huge problems, as they continue to win in spite of the struggles they are susceptible to blowouts like this and thought there were many players who are struggling to contribute, given the massive expectations on the player coming into the season this has been a monumental disappointment of a quarter season. Juancho Hernangomez who started in place of Scottie Barnes in the Raptors’ win on Monday provided much more positivity to the team in his 23 minutes yesterday and looked good on Monday so fans are asking if it is he should be the one who gets the start again on Friday as the team visits the Brooklyn Nets. It’s clear Scottie Barnes has a very high ceiling but how long can the Raptors have patience with him in the starting lineup? Though it is far too early to label a player as a bust, is this the direction Barnes is heading towards? What can Masai Ujiri and the Raptors do to change that?

Anyone who has a clue about ball knows either 1 of or both things is going on with scottie rn . Either he's still injured or he put to much weight in the off-season. Clearly he's way slower and less explosive this year than last year….

I asked Scottie on twitch how is ankle was about a month ago… same body language as the other day in his interview when he replied to me… “ankles fine fam”. He is playing at 85% right now to try and help us and that’s fucked. He needs to take time and get right or it’s gonna be long season for him getting blasted.

I was one of the fans saying trade for KD even if that meant we lose Scottie …. it didn't happen I trust Masai but I'm not about to give up on Scottie like a lot of u guys are….and u trying to place Bo Cruz over Scottie for CHANCE at some regular season wins is ridiculous. If this team doesn't get close to 15-5-5 from Scottie on a consistent basis, they will miss the playoffs and Bo Cruz will not give u that.. .so instead of benching him they need to figure out how to get Scottie back to what he did best last yr …forget trying to make him a 3 point shooter …GO raps !
They need to not let him shoot 3's and make him play mid range and under the basket! He is not a great shooter yet and they have to pound that into his head!
It's his second year in the league and after last year it's tough to just keep going up he will be fine relax make less videos and just relax
