Former Knicks assistant coach Kenny Payne starts the season 0-9 with the Louisville Cardinals

KP’s woeful start has people evaluating if this is the [worst Louisville team of all time](https://dknation.draftkings.com/2022/12/10/23503254/louisville-basketball-history-worst-mens-team-ever-kenny-payne-2022-2023). It’s definitely their worst start in over 80 years. Moral of the story? The grass isn’t always greener on the other side.

Despite Knick fans thinking of him as an amazing assistant coach for some reason, it’s tough to make the leap to head coach, even for an NCAA team. However, I’m confident those same folks will get convenient amnesia and continue to twerk for Johnnie Bryant.

The visual of someone twerking for Johnnie Bryant is something that is going to haunt me for the rest of my life

What’s his contract situation like with them?

In reality probably 1% of us actually know anything about the assistant coaches. The other 99% just go with assumptions (including me) 😂

Can’t really judge college coach on their first 10 games.

For you gambling types, they’ve yet to cover a spread this year. Just getting blown out

Assistant coaches in the NBA are extremely difficult to evaluate, heck head coaches often are when it comes to team success. Lots of so-called “great assistants” were terrible Head Coaches: David Fizdale, James Borrego, Luke Walton, Jim Boylen, and Lloyd Pierce to name a few. ACs in the NBA also just aren’t nearly as important as assistants in other sports like the NFL with OCs and DCs or even the NHL with goalie coaches.

The Cards may suck rt now but to expect any brand new coach to step in and turn a losing program into a winner in their 1st season is kind of a dick move. Give the guy at least until mid next season to pass judgement so this summer he can recruit some players and use the portal to fill in the gaps. But really he should have a winner by year 3. Coaching is important but
talented players help just a wee bit too lol.

I feel like the hype for Kenny was always regarding his strong relationships with players. Never really heard anything about “x’s and O’s” with him.

Maybe we should learn from the Fizdale debacle.
