Ideal Toronto Raptors trade targets? Is Achiuwa undervalued? Siakam extension worries? | Mailbag!

In episode 1309, Sean Woodley takes listener questions about the 15-19 Toronto Raptors ahead of a big back-to-back set against the Memphis Grizzlies and Phoenix Suns. Off the top, Sean addresses a question about Precious Achiuwa and whether or not his importance to the Raptors has been undervalued by the fan base during his absence ahead of his potential return tonight or tomorrow. Plus, where will the Raptors be in the standings by the time the All-Star break rolls around? Next, Sean digs into some trade-related questions regarding the most likely Raptors to get moved between Gary Trent Jr., Chris Boucher and Khem birch, and why the New York Knicks duo of Immanuel Quickley and Isaiah Hartenstein is his dream target trade package for the Raptors ahead of the deadline, while Jakob Poeltl’s fit is a little bit more of a question mark. Lastly, Sean chats about the players who have been most regularly scapegoated on the Raptors roster this season and who is most likely to have a second half bounceback — Scottie Barnes feels like a good candidate if he’s going to play the five so much — as well as the level of worry he’s feeling about the Raptors’ ability to retain Pascal Siakam before he hits free agency. All that and more on today’s show!

  1. Not sure why fans want the to trade for players. When a team centred around Siakam and FVV is just a first round exit

  2. I think you miss the reality of their place in the standings when talking about tanking. They already are in the range to get a good pick, right now. They are picking in the top 10 and while they could snag the 6th seed they could also just as easily pick 6th.

  3. @sean woodly i would trade fvv for kyle lowry as you are getting a true pg with passing ability and much higher basketball IQ back. cant win championships with low basketball IQ players. thats just the reality.

and you do trade fred vanvleet, gary trent jr, and chris boucher this year sa their values will not be higher than it is now. look at what the 3 player contracts are gonna be around 98-105 million when og , barnes and siakam resigned. raptors in reaility cant afford to be in luxury tax with 4 players its why the 3 i mentioned are gone.

  4. @sean woodley i think gary trent and otto porter to timberwolves probably get you nowell and naz and minot plus filler.

i would try to flip fred vanvleet to pelicans and try to get dyson daniels or their lakers swap this year. they could take dejounte graham contract who isnt playing, and garett temple, and dyson daniels or kira lewis jr and the lakers pick swap this year, and lakers pick next year for fvv. considering those guys dont play , its pretty good deal for pelicans who dont lose really anything in the deal in guys contributing.

with knicks you probably getting hartenstein and derrick rose who you can decline the team option in summer, plus the dallas top 10 protected pick for gary trent jr.

  5. Sooner or later Masai will move from Siakam and FVV. FVV always goes thru shooting slump, his stats looks good is when gets out of slumps. While teams are not worried of Siakam scoring, which is why he hardly gets doubled.

  6. To maximize Barnes, he has to play in Siakam spot. People have to realize they both have similar games. They both the ball on their hands to be effective and play in the post. They both are not centers and their play will suffer in the long term if they keep playing as centres. People forget that Siakam was playing the center last year and he moved away from it in the latter part of the season.

  7. I feel like the idea that somehow Precious is going to make this team a competitive top 8-seeded team is just grasping for straws at this point…Give up on this "position-less" game, keep Siakam, Scottie and OG, and use the other pieces to trade and re-tool around those guys, that's the solution IMO.
