Nick Nurse on what the teams biggest issue is: “Our lack of scoring and our lack of shooting has put our defense in a huge bind just early on and that you can handle, but you can’t handle it over and over and over and over again to be constantly on the run defensively.”

> “Our biggest issue defensively is we’re playing transition defense far too frequent, right? They are coming out at us off of a missed shot or a turnover way too much, right? You just can’t constantly be in that mode, right? Our lack of scoring and our lack of shooting has put our defense in a huge bind just early on and that you can handle, but you can’t handle it over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again to be constantly on the run defensively right? You gotta get your defense set up. So that’s probably my biggest concern right now.”

I never thought I’d see the day Nick acknowledged the offence is the problem. He’s absolutely right that we don’t get to play enough half court defence because we miss too many 3s and shit leading to transition defence.

My mans started Barnes, OG, Pascal, Juancho & Koloko today

    No shit we’re lacking scoring/shooting

The team looks like its accepted that this is a roster construction issue. The last few games it feels like everyone’s tried to will us back in the 4th and theres no attempt to even hunt out jumpshots or 3s. Everything is put your head down and go all out at the rim and pray for the best. Gets us clawing back but one made 3 from the opponent and all that energy is wasted.

They cant pick their poison on defense. Guard a bit too hard, rim is open because Pascal cant pick up fouls or our offense completely collapses. Guard the paint? Just a bit too much space to give up the 3

But you played that non scoring starting lineup lol

True. It also kills motivation to be work so hard to make great passes to the open shooter that bricks it …

Proceeds to start Bo Cruz over GTJ. We end up in a 10+ point hole in the first 5 minutes that we never climb out of – “So as I was saying about our lack of scoring and shooting… right?… right??… RIGHT???”

I just dont get how the exact same team won 48 games last year and this year we’re literal tanking-level bad with no real loss in the rotation.

It’s not just “roster construction” because the same guys could get you above .500 at least last year. The players seem to have checked out on defense, maybe the coach lost part of the locker room or something, maybe players egos are getting in the way with contracts coming up.

The vibes in general seem to have taken a turn and it’s not just a roster thing because we had the exact same roster flaws last year in a winning season

This team simultaneously gives up way too many easy dunks/layups and open 3s (which the opposing players make because they’re practice shots). All our best defenders just don’t have it anymore after being run into the ground playing 40 minutes every night.

    The defense is just atrocious.

And people say “trade gary”… the only player capable of scoring

Head Coach: Our biggest problem is lack of shooting.

Also Head Coach: Starts 2 SFs, 2 PFs, and a rookie Center

Malachi should probably be starting while Fred is out

Can we actually free Jeff Dowtin. The team is playing like ass and I swear everytime he plays he looks good. I do t get it

As a fan it’s reassuring to hear Nurse acknowledge that the offence, specifically a lack of shooting is our big issue.

I want to see what adjustments he’ll make to circumvent this issue. I’m really fine with a long term approach of making our non-shooters better shot makers and giving Barnes and Koloko the freedom to develop their offensive game. A top 10 pick in this years draft would be nice, but it’s also sad to waste a year of Siakam’s prime

The issue last year is we shot a shitty percentage but made things up with more possessions than the other team

This year teams are better and the gig is up and we are still shooting 10% worse than the other team

It’s roster construction and that’s on Webster
