Joe Lacob on the prospects of all 3 OG Warriors retiring with team: “Bill Walsh…once said, ‘Better to trade a player a year too early than a year too late.’ I’m not saying we’re thinking like that necessarily, but it’s really an important statement.”

> “Whether we like to hear this or not, players do get older and their skills erode; the question is trying to time all that,” Lacob said. “We would like them to retire, all three of them, as Warriors. I really would like that. We really would like that. And I think they would like that. And we’re going to try to do that if it makes sense.

>“But unfortunately, if you look through the history of professional sports, let’s look at the NBA in particular, it usually doesn’t end that way. Players want to hang on sometimes a little longer than they can or should. Organizations sometimes want to hang on to a dream longer. So you’re trying to put all that into perspective and trying to balance it all.

>*Bill Walsh, I think I’ve quoted him before, once said, ‘Better to trade a player a year too early than a year too late.’ I’m not saying we’re thinking like that necessarily, but it’s really an important statement. You don’t want to go through a decade of being bad, either, for our fans, right? It’s a very difficult calculus.*

No way curry is ever not a warrior

I remember all that fuss about Steph’s contract right before they maxed him, twice. So I wouldn’t worry about what Lacob says

  3. By that logic, Wiseman should’ve been gone already

  4. LukaDoncicfuturegoat

So Dray is on the block the second he opt-ins ?

  5. rahul_____raja

Wasn’t it Branch Rickey who said that?

Lacob is always saying the most inflamatory things lmao

  6. im honestly down to be dogwater for a couple years if it means the core can retire together

Draymond and Klay to LA confirmed.

    Steph to Charlotte confirmed.

Klay to the Lakers for Westbrick.

I would’ve traded Dray and Klay immediately after they won the chip. That’s the max value you can get plus they just extended Poole and Wiggs for a lot.

Pros ALWAYS think they have 1 more year than the FO does. Although the FO is almost always right, players end up pissed and go to a diff team for a season and find out the FO was right after all as they almost get waived mid season.

  11. Man i’ll take Klay right now he got that Laker blood in him

Meaningless to play whole career with 1 team at the end of the day. It’s a cute story, but meaningless.

Steph or Klay will definitely play somewhere else, if the price is right. Some dumb team will pay either or them $40 mill + just for a year, then they’ll go back to warriors to retire.

I can see old man Steph in Charlotte or Klay with the Lakers. However it’d be great if they got to stay in the bay.

  15. KnickedUp

He aint looking to pay the corpse of Klay/Dray

  16. NBA teams consistently get cursed when they trade away the players that won them championships.

If they don’t extend Draymond they won’t have to trade him, he’ll walk to the Pacers/Thunder and get his bag there.

  18. Freeeecurry

Ah some one ask him why he didn’t do that with wiseman then?

Steph finishes his career following in is dad’s footsteps by winning 6MOTY for the hornets and eventually guiding Lamelo and Wemby to the championship in 2028.

Lacob thinks he’s Belichick. Steph Curry to a Florida team incoming!

  21. osmnaos3

Curry made a huge, huge percentage of your net worth Lacob. He will retire a warrior whenever he fucking wishes.

    Classic “I said too much”.

This is all about Klay. And after his quote this week? Klay knows they’re going to leverage off him.

Basically, take a pay cut or you’re gone and your tenure doesn’t matter (like every other corporate-run business). It’s not about what you’ve done for me, it’s about what you can do for me in the future.
