If you believe in Mervis being the guy at some point in 23, Hosmer is the perfect pick. Like you said, he’s not blocking anybody out and at minimum you’re getting a serviceable bat and a more competent glove in an extremely defense friendly team.
At worst, Mervis does not pan out and we are back to the drawing board on first base. Even in that scenario we have an upgrade over what we had last year in Hosmer.
You wouldn’t pay the guy $30 million a year but 700 or so thousand per year is a no-brainer.
Man I miss Gordon and Kap 😢
We officially got no better.
This podcast is now the 2021 Cubs after the trade deadline.
Go Cubs go ⚾
No offense to Tim and James(I'm sure they're good guys) but this podcast is missing a big personality left by Kap and Wittenmeyer. My advice would be to get a 3rd person into the mix(maybe a baseball personality/analyst who can provide more insight)
I don’t get about trying to sign Abreu? Are Cubs trying to compete for Championship the next two years? You just waisted those money and also delayed more permanent first base choices. And also pushing into luxury tax when you are not close to win the whole thing. Anyone explain what the benefit besides win few games more?
You went from working with Kap and Gordon to this guy?!? Not good enough.
WOW getting Hosmer is just like picking up a young Willie Stargell or McCovey !
So basically the Cubs are gonna be a 1 year team this season with Bellinger, Hosmer, Barnhart and a few others. I don't see them on the team after this season. The Cubs success this season will be based on 1 year guys. Hopefully 2024 will be the season they can have some depth and long term satbility.
