[Lewenberg] Prior to the start of the season, VanVleet turned down a contract extension valued at roughly $114 million, the maximum Toronto could offer at the time, according to a source.

>In terms of what VanVleet will be looking for on the open market, the four-year, $130 million deal that Tyler Herro got last fall is expected to be the baseline.

>Masai Ujiri and Bobby Webster have both spoken openly about their intention to keep VanVleet in Toronto beyond this season. **Despite the team’s recent setback and the re-evaluation process its prompted among the front office, there’s no indication that their stance on VanVleet has changed.**

The bolded part is interesting. Wonder if they want to keep Fred but not at the lengths they tried previously.

That’s higher annual salary than Brunson he should’ve taken that and ran he’s not that guy anymore

🤣🤣🤣 when betting on yourself goes wrong

No wonder he’s in full chuck mode and gets mad at Scottie Barnes for bringing up the ball

  3. Calm-Cry4253

It’s interesting that Masai would want to keep him around.

Will be very interesting to see what happens at the deadline. FVV has been the leader of this team, but not sure he fits the expected tanking timeline and vision (especially at his recent play, and possibility of clashing with Barnes playstyle).

I refuse to believe Fred is this stupid

  6. madvilIainy

this might be another case of losing a lot of M’s cause you decided to bet on yourself. he’s not getting that kind of offer again while playing at the current level he’s in rn.

  7. realudonishaslem

Raptors roster next year will look very different from now, I can see it. FVV has player option this summer.

I forgot which former player said this but “if you’re not a superstar, take the money instead of gambling on yourself”

  9. Ancient_Artichoke_40

Did he forget he is Fred VanVleet and just got offered $114 million? This is not going to end well. Unless the Knicks get involved.

LOL! If any front office pays him anywhere close to that they’re literal morons. He’s been truly terrible for quite a while now, and is the worst shooter in the entire NBA since last season’s all-star break.

Captain Hindsight gang about to check in

  12. VidProphet123

This guy is average. Any GM that gives him max should be banned from the league.

  13. Anxiousapathy20

Lmao these dudes are so overpaid. He’s not that guy anymore

  14. younghplus

Damn I get betting on yourself but the lack of team success gonna hurt him. Toronto need to trade him for Lowry and some second rounders lol

  15. 114 vs 130? dude, take the money. they are both lots of money but trying for an extra 16 mil can turn you into the next Schroeder really fast

  16. QueasyDrummer00

My guy bet on himself, then got offered a max and turned it down. You can’t make this up.

  17. PolarBearLaFlare

Lol FVV saved them a ton of money. He ain’t getting anywhere near that unless he picks it up

  18. tinkeropx

It’s sad but FVV is basically a mixture of Isaiah Thomas falling off and Dennis Schroeder fumbling the bag by betting on himself.

    This is gonna be sad.

Lewenberg and Doug Smith should be castrated

  20. jakeizzle18

So we all need to start betting FVV overs post All star break right?

  21. riccooks

We had a good run with him but we gotta move on. We could get good pieces for him too.

“$130M deal that Tyler Herro got last fall is expected to be the baseline.”

    Whose paying FVV that???

  23. JTtizzle

Fred is probably betting that he is getting another kid. History has shown he plays better after one

  24. 2020IsANightmare

Never mad at a player getting paid.

No good team is going to offer FVV $32+ million/year in free agency.

He’s stuck with Toronto and Toronto is stuck with him.

  25. I’m baffled at how FVV goes from being the 2nd in 3pt shooting last season behind Steph, to throwing up bricks this year.

He had a career high 52 points once. The man forgot how to shoot.
