Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic recently put up the first ever 60 points, 20 rebound, 10 assist game. It was an incredible display. Still, Andre Iguodala reminds us, don’t forget that then-Houston Rockets guard James Harden did something like that a few years ago and it did not receive the same reception. Luka doesnt choke in the playoffs plus his game is much more diverse. Many of his makes are mid range jumpers to add to the 3 pointers and layups. Harden neevr shot mid range not to mention play out of the post which luka does that a lot. Amd luka rarely takes 10 dribbles to take a shot like harden did. Its max 5 and thats it. Harden was all just three three three, ft ft ft. And he was inefficient in the playoffs and thats what hurt them. People like to compare them but they aint that similar
Luka is doing things completely differently that Harden. Luka is posting up bigs and dominating in the post as a guard. Harden was shooting 3s and getting phantom foul calls whenever he wanted. Luka is also doing this at 23, not in the middle of his prime. Just stop even trying to compare.
James harden was holding people arms and getting fouls James could never play out post like Luka shoot midrange finish like luka James harden was great at 3 point line and the free throws stop it.
It’s nowhere near the same, Harden did hardcore ugly flopping and was 30 when he did it, this is a 23 year old smhhh.

At the end, they have to win a ring or else it’s all for nothing. And these days they might have to win 2 rings to make this style valid.

James Harden didn’t have a mid range or post up game – something that Doncic has in spades. And while Harden was a good passer, he isn’t the playmaker that Doncic is. Yes they have similar play styles, but Doncic is just doing it better than James.
Also, he’s doing it age 23, which is where some of the hype comes from. When you see someone at this age doing what he’s doing, the narrative changes. People ask … could he be the next (insert top 10 player of all time)?
A different reception, for a myriad of reasons, should be expected. Imagine if he was American. The reception would be even greater

Also luka doesn't throw his legs out when he shoots a 3 or travels to take one. Just the usual stepback 3 we all know and love. Harden was literally going out of his way to get some whistle and people didn't like that. It's amazing that you have to rely on these tactics when you are so talented.
