✓ The Cavs believe Tim Hardaway Jr is available.
✓They think THJ is a better fit than Caris Levert . He’s a better C&S and provides better spacing for their potent backcourt.
✓Levert, on the other hand, needs the ball to be effective and is not a great C&S player.
✓Levert could be more useful in the Mavs, as he provides a much needed ball-handling alongside Luka and Spencer.
✓Fischer mentions that the Mavs already tried to acquire Levert from the Pacers in the last trade deadline.
✓Levert is an expiring contract . The straight swap can work in theory.

Hell no. Caris Levert has played 106 games out of 328 games these past 4 seasons. We’d be doing the cavs a solid doing a straight swap
I like thj, much rather have him than that alien haircut
1 for 1? yes. Timmy is good only half the games anyways lol. Caris Levert is good every time he plays
edit: and it’s a way to get out of Timmy’s contract
I like it. Even if the swap is pretty much equal, we know what THJ brings to this offense, and his limitations. We don’t know what LeVert brings, it could be MUCH better. If it’s worse, oh well. It’s better than doing nothing and being stagnant with our team.
Big thing too: With that contract expiring, we could free up space for a significant move, something that seemed pretty impossible. If LeVert works, we work on a re-signing. If not, that works out too.
Damn Nico coming in and trading for some of my favorite players.
I actually think this could benefit both teams
Also a good point to be mentioned : Levert familiarity with Spencer ,Pinson and Dudley (as he played with them in the 2017 Nets) could also accelerate his integration in the squad,if this trade does indeed happen.
Do it
This would be great. THJ is just a shooter and he is wildly inefficient. He’s also on a terrible contract for his production.
LeVert has his flaws but he’s shooting better than THJ this year and is on an expiring contract. If he doesn’t fit we can just move on and clear the cap space
Oh, I love this idea. I wouldn’t give up Timmy for anything other than a two-way SF, but Levert fits that bill.
Where do I sign?
I’d do it. Tim will 100% never be more than he is and what he is, is the absolute pinnacle of gambling in a game of basketball. And i don’t like gambling where making your own luck is an option.
Absolute shame cause in theory he should have room for growth but it just hasnt happened. Not even the tiniest bit.
is he better 3 pt shooter then thj i dont follow the cavs
Levert hasn’t done much but neither has Tim, hell why not
Oh yes another mid player Mavs have to get again in the UFA with non existing cap.
Yes please, this actually sounds like a great idea where both teams can benefit.
I am not a fan of this trade at all. I also think THJ fits better here than LeVert does.
Last year at the trade deadline when THJ was injured it would have made some sense but not this year.
First, as easy as it is to hate on THJ and his contract, he is in four of our top seven two man lineups in net rating this year, and as of summer 2024 he will become an expiring on the cheapest year of his declining deal (aka a trade asset.) THJ had an awful first month but that can be forgiven because he was understandably rusty. He has been much, much better since late November.
Hardaway is the [2nd highest Mav in RAPTOR at #40](https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/nba-player-ratings/), tied with Bradley Beal just south of Zion Williamson, and above Pascal Siakim, Trae Young, Andrew Wiggins and even our old buddy Jalen Brunson. His net ratings coincide with this.
Secondly, LeVert is awful defensively (moreso than THJ). Last year he had a massive negative rating which is inexcusable because he was surrounded by good defenders. He has never been a great shooter either – this year’s 36.7% from 3 is the best of his career, and he is under 33% more often than not.
Finally, and the main reason, I am not convinced the added potential flexibility matters. Any flexibility of LeVert over Hardaway assumes we let him walk for nothing or can resign him for radically less. So our team gets worse this year, and then gets even worse on paper next year to get a slightly bigger exception and maybe not get hard capped on a sign-and-trade? Hardaway is off the books soon enough. Gotta hold our horses, and Hardaway has been playing well enough lately that I am perfectly willing to do that.
Can someone just please take Bullock
THJ’s contract becomes a positive as early as next season. From next summer on 34m over 2 years on a decreasing scale. Yeah, he has his slumps but overall Timmy is a good-ish 3 point shooter on a high volume who can sink contested ones.
My problem with going for cap space is the Mavs’ history with cap space 😀
Mavs will likely need to trade for a 2nd star player and THJ will imo be at least neutral value next off-season.
THJ has been Booty cheeks this year. He’s had a few games where he really popped scoring wise but even then he was shooting under 45% on those nights. He’s been the best out of trio of Bullock and dodo this year but all 3 have been complete trash. I’m all for getting rid of players who aren’t playing well instead of banging our head against wall crossing our fingers for that 1 night out of 5 that THJ has a legit positive winning influence.
I wouldn’t mind this, honestly.
I love Tim but he’s just so hot and cold.
Interesting Hardaway is a nice piece but not a cornerstone this might be his best trade value, he also has a locker room presence being apart of the leadership council. But Levert would give better defense but less offense
I am torn.
THJ is the high minutes Luka known quantity that works insanely well. Over anyone. The next closest thing is Wood from a minutes stand point. Not including the Green combo with lower minutes.
Hardaway-Luka lineups have a +9.7 net rating. That is the third highest of all 2-man lineups over 300 minutes.
– Green – Wood +12
– Doncic – Powell +10.7
– Doncic – Hardaway +9.7
– Dinwiddie – Powell +8.7
– Hardaway – Powell +8.6
– Hardaway – Wood +6.1
– Hardaway – Kleber +5.9
Tim is in 4 of the Mavs top 7 2-man nets, there is a reason why RAPTOR is liking him so much.
He is prolly the most underrated defender (on the entire roster right now) from all the Mavs players on the roster who are considered weak on defense. Which is clearly why those numbers are looking the way it is.
If you compare defensive on/off:
– Luka is minus 5.2
– Dinwiddie minus 7.2
– THJ plus 0.2
THJ is a fit next to Luka and Wood imo. Better than Dinwiddie from the sheer standpoint of starting and providing enough defense. THJ helps the offense, but doesn’t kill the defense. Dinwiddie helps the offense, but it seems he kills the defense.
Let’s do it
How does Tim Hardaway defend and shoot 3’s?
Levert expiring. THJ has two years left. That by itself is a good deal for us since our owner is a cheap fuck. Maybe he can afford to pay Wood with THJ off the books.
I don’t know much about him, but outside of his second season, he’s capped out at playing 58 games in a season. That makes THJ look like an ironman in this league.
