Since KD is being reevaluated for his injury in 2 weeks, it is very possible that he won’t be playing against the Lakers on January 30, making it over 4 years since LeBron James and Kevin Durant played against each other.
For context, the last time they faced off was over a year before the pandemic, before Kobe Bryant’s death, and almost two years before the 2020 presidential election. Since their previous matchup, KD has been a 2x All-Star, 1x All-NBA, and Western Conference champion. He also had an Achilles injury, went through rehab, and came back from the injury. Meanwhile, LeBron has racked up 4x All-Star appearances, 4x All-NBA, and a Finals MVP.
Just another reminder to appreciate greatness while it lasts. We never know when it might be the last time two greats face off.

Yeah they ain’t playing this year. Kd probably earliest return will be early February
They have played 3 Finals against each other – would be interesting to see if they ever face off in the playoffs again
Sigh hope we at least get one more matchup while they are both still in their prime.
NBA has become a sad product…..like if Lebron sat tonight against Jokic I wouldn’t even be surprised…..I never expect anyone to play anymore I just hope
Bruh. It’s felt like an eternity since they’ve played against each other
Bron has had a whole NBA hall of fame career since they last played each other.
Yeah unlikely they bring KD back by then. I’m thinking they will bring him back after the allstar break to play it safe
Sucks that this literally happened last year when they were the 2 seed around this time as well
they may never play against each other again lol
Real talk. If the NBA’s “ref meta” continues to favor running back skills over basketball skills, then the NBA needs to adopt an NFL schedule. You cant have it both ways, encouraging ONLY athleticism AND have a million game season. Theres a reason why players from the 80s and 90s did not have so many season injuries and it was not a disparity in basketball talent level.
Please beg the NBA to make this opening night next year.
This is just sad to read
Ducking LeSmoke
The basketball gods shed a tear.. respect for two of the most gifted players of our generation
This is actually kind of crazy
Another interesting tidbit: Kevin Durant has never played in front of fans at Chase Center. With this injury likely causing him to miss the Jan. 22 game against the Warriors, this will remain true until next season (save a Warriors/Nets Finals matchup).
It’s too bad. I really thought Durant would be the face of the league one day. Like the best player in the world. Undisputed. He wasn’t even the best player on Stephs championship teams.
Sadly he’s just injured. Or waiting to be injured.
KD plays? Lakers by 5.
KD doesnt play? Lakers by 22.
Wait wasn’t kd playing in the last Brooklyn meeting?
I’m embarrassed I didn’t realize this. Two of my fav players to watch.
They both “too old for this shit”
I guess they’ll have to wait until the finals to play against each other.
