Jimmy didn’t blame the refs for the no-call 2 days ago, today he got 23 FTA vs the Thunder today. Does complimenting the refs work?

[Two days ago](https://twitter.com/wcgoldberg/status/1612269071051153408?s=46&t=bc80k3oowFjgUQflUTqgHQ), Jimmy said he didn’t think it was the refs fault for the Heat losing the game against the Brooklyn Nets, in which Jimmy did not get a foul call on the final play. [Today vs the OKC Thunder](https://www.espn.com/nba/boxscore/_/gameId/401468766), Jimmy got a fairly generous whistle, with 23 attempts (and 23 makes). He had 35 points on 6/17 shooting overall. Miami was a record 40/40 from the line

Shai did something similar earlier in the season, and then got blessed with a generous whistle too, currently at 4th in FTA in the league at 10.28. Should more players try to be nicer to the refs instead of jawing off at them when they don’t get calls?

Unironically needs to be an investigation into the refs after that lmfao

  2. StripedSteel

Jimmy got 23 FTs. Thunder got 21. Heat got 40. Most were cheap touch fouls.

This really is the new meta. KD should talk good about the refs when he comes back.

  4. shadowarmy229

Embiid could use this strat for sure lmao

  5. DancingCactius

Unfortunately Hitler still has the record for 24 free throws without a miss in a game. Refs need to do better next game.

  6. LordFarhaams

Jimmy playing the ‘we cool’ game with the refs and it worked

  7. sebastianqu

Nah. Jimmy is always like this. There are never excuses for a loss as far as he’s concerned.

  8. Then prime Harden was giving the refs pre-game handies

  9. HeadsNotTails

Refs can call something almost every possession if they wanted to. They are human too and if someone is nice to them I wouldn’t put it past them to be paying attention to when that person is “fouled” more.

Heat went 40-40 from the line. Just insane.

Jimmy B and a bunch of 3rd stringers get another W. Name a more iconic duo

You definitely get a better whistle by not blaming the refs in a contentious decision, even if it’s just implicit bias rather than conscious.

Having said that, I didn’t see the whole game but Jimmy draws his free throws through legitimate contact. He might get some soft ones at times but I think it’s fair game when you’re actually going at defenders instead of twisting your body to buy some contact from a shot.

I never understood why players don’t do this more often.

  14. rapelbaum

And tons of offensive foul on Heat lol

Stop complaining, the refs are bad both ways !

Did you watch the game? The Thunder’s discipline on D was atrocious – it’s not Jimmy’s fault they fell for literally every single pump fake

  16. jigglyanimeboobies

Jimmy showed the slightest bit of respect to the refs and they awarded him with a Joel Embiid stat line lmao.

  17. NudeEnjoyer

I didn’t watch the game, were they soft calls or relatively normal stuff? I wouldn’t be surprised either way tbh

  18. GlueGuy00

saw this coming from a mile away after seeing the result of that SGA quote lol

I don’t know how many of you actually watch basketball games versus highlights, but the thunder do commit a lot of fouls. The mavs attempted 42 free throws against the thunder last game. The wizards 36 the game before that.

  20. NoLimitSoldier31

Idk if complimenting them works but whatever Ant and KAT are doing screaming at the refs every play, definitely doesn’t work.

  21. Jicama-Smart

yes, which is why they will never give Steph a FT after he called them out by name

  22. binkingthasketball

Refs will forget what you said, refs will forget what you did

But refs will never forget how you made them **feel**

  23. PM_ME_UR_PICS_PLS

Something tells me the refs aren’t watching highlights of every single NBA game each night and seeing which players complain or not to their referee brothers/sisters

  24. This sub has a hate boner on the Heat. Look at how many fts the Thunder has given in their last games, just shows how they are atrocious in defending without fouling (42 mavs, 36 wiz, 36 magic). But now that we hit them at a perfect 100%, y’all calling bullshit. Lmao.

  25. Daheixiong

Well Lamelo said he could do the refs job last year and this year he’s gotten very little to no foul calls. Even when getting clobbered

  26. JayZeeThree

Jimmy would average 12.5 ppg without free throws he’s always gotten the calls

  27. MillaRedd

It doesn’t matter who we root for. We all watch our teams play other teams and the refs suck for everyone, consistently. JC they can’t even go to a replay and get shit right.

Last night The Lakers and Nuggets beat the shit out each other for 48 minutes. It’s not even fun to watch. But 40 FTs for one team? Was it an 8 hour game? That’s fing ridiculous.

They are getting worse. One single challenge you get after watching 15 fuck ups.

  28. stepback-two

Unequivocally yes. The refs are sensitive weirdos and this dusty works very well. Surprising more players don’t do it, but honestly it must be hard to compliment/at least not complain about the refs. They’ve been so awful.

  29. Electronic-Morning76

Coming from a dude who employed this strategy with every Rec league team I played on, it probably doesn’t hurt. I would make it a point to ensure we didn’t ever complain about calls and were polite to the refs. Felt like we rarely were the team to get screwed over by the officials. Now this is the NBA, but what teams do you think the refs would like to officiate more? The whiny bitch ass team or the team that shuts the fuck up and let’s you do your job?
