>The [Los Angeles Lakers](https://lakersdaily.com/) have been linked to Fred VanVleet and Kyle Lowry ahead of this season’s trade deadline, [according to *USA Today*’s Jeff Zillgitt](https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nba/2023/01/12/nba-trade-deadline-lakers-raptors-heat-could-make-moves/11026786002/).
>
>The [Toronto Raptors](https://ahnfiredigital.com/category/nba/raptors/), who have underachieved so far this season, could be in the market to move several players at the deadline if they end up blowing up their roster.
>
>VanVleet and Gary Trent Jr. may make the most sense since both players have player options this coming offseason.
>
>*“The Raptors are a hot topic,” Zillgitt wrote. “Will they blow it up? Make minor moves? Do nothing at all? It’s another interesting situation because the Raptors have players other teams want, including Pascal Siakam, OG Anunoby, Fred VanVleet and Scottie Barnes, the 2021-22 Rookie of the Year. Adding intrigue is the contract situations: Siakam and Anunoby can become free agents in 2024, VanVleet a free agent following this season and Barnes is looking for a significant raise on a rookie extension. The 17-23 Raptors have financial decisions to make at some point. Keep this in mind, too: Under team president Masai Ujiri and general manager Bobby Webster, the Raptors are not known for major deals at the trade deadline. VanVleet is worth watching, and with his name linked to a possible Lakers deal, don’t discount a sly move for VanVleet by Orlando.”*
>
>The Lakers could view VanVleet as an upgrade at the point guard position, but they may have to move off of significant draft capital to do so. So far this season, Los Angeles has been reluctant to make a move that requires it to trade its first-round selections in the 2027 and 2029 drafts.

I wonder if a fvv-lowry swap could happen. Heat wanna dump lowry’s contract but still get a pg back in fvv. Miami adds whatever draft pick or young pick as compensation.
And who do they want to offload? Westbrook? Anyone that trades for Westbrook is doing Lakers a favour because they’ll get returning assets.
Beverly Nunn Bryant and one of those sweet sweet unprotected FRP
I wouldnt be opposed to a three way deal with the Lakers. I have no interest in their 2027 or 2029 picks. Something along the lines of
* Toronto – Myles Turner
* Lakers – Fred
* Indy – Pat Bev (buy out) + Nunn + FRP
Before the “thats a risk, how do you know Turner will re-sign here” you only do that deal having got some assurances that he would re-sign here. Whilst this is technically against NBA policy, this is how agents operate and make their money.
Why is everyone taking for granted that Westbrook is a net negative in these deals? He’s accepted a bench role and is putting up decent numbers.
On the Raptors he would immediately turn the bench into something better than miserable.
FVV + Otto/Thad/Khem for Westbrook and a pick even if it’s somewhat protected is a win for this current team. You move Barnes to point and Precious to the starting group while Westbrook comes in and jump starts the bench while also allowing the team to make a run at keeping GTJ.
Lakers have interest in anyone with a pulse
Ya’ll really undervalue Fred.
He’s having a terrible season but he’s not worth trading to take on Kyle’s 30mil next season at 38 years old cmon bro.
And in my opinion any trade with the Lakers is just straight up trash, they are only interested in giving up their scraps and very distant picks.
Fred ain’t this ass bro
LAKERS ARE INTERESTED (Lakers and Blue Jays have the same slogan)
If we get both of their firsts, we can do gary and fred for russ
lonnie walker, pat bev, and one of those delicious picks.
Ok we’ll take Lebron tysm
I don’t think Russ reports here anyway
The Lakers have interest in everyone. Nobody wants Westbrook and they don’t have any draft capital. They are going to have to seriously consider trading LeBron or AD at some point and rebuild.
Best I could come up with is:
Beverley, Nunn, Thomas Bryant, and their FRP (likely to be NOPs FRP) for FVV.
All three of those guys are on relatively cheap expiring contracts so the FRP and the financial flexibility (>30M) and the ability to give the keys to Scottie as a playmaker are the dealmakers.
It makes a lot of sense to me but I’m still not sure Id do it.
Gonna get downvoted but the Lakers are usually trash by midway through the decade and I’d love to have there picks, plz and thank you.
Look at both divisions, no need to thrown out the baby with the bath water yet. Were doing just as good as lakers yet we gota take their scraps?
