I get the argument that you might as well ride out the year and make your trades in the summer…. EXCEPT Toronto has lost several players for nothing by following this model. If there's a good chance you're going to lose someone to free agency, why not trade them before the deadline? How does it HELP the team to lose key assets without getting anything back? We're not LA or NY or Miami. Players aren't lining up in free agency to be part of a mediocre team in Canada….
…. and that's the other thing. Yeah, the Raps went on a run last year and made the playoffs. So what? Is that it? Is that success? Even if we go on another run this year and get to 7th or 8th, we'll likely be knocked out in the first round again. What's the point of that? We're not good enough to compete for a title, but we're not bad enough to get a franchise-defining draft pick, so we're going to float around the middle for a few years to see if the current crop pans out? No.
Siakam is in his prime and having a great year. Now would be a GREAT time to trade him for a package of great prospects and picks. FVV and Jr are expiring. Swap them before we lose them for nothing. OG is only 25 on a team-friendly deal. Let him become the defensive backbone for a group of dynamic young players and see if we can catch lightning in a bottle like the Grizzlies. There's no UPSIDE to standing pat on a team that struggles to stay at .500, and it bothers me that people are saying that "if only" the Raps would go on a run everything would be ok. No. It wouldn't. We'd still be (at best) an underachieving, bottom seed team. Getting to 7th place won't change that.
lol, playin hahaha this is hilarious. We are in a prime position to get a good pick on this draft, if we continue trying to win games now, we will regret not taking advantage of a situation that doesn't come around every season . Talent wins in the nba, and the raptors are a team that lack high end talent. I am not opposed to trading siakam and FVV and giving more time for the bench to play during the second half of the season.
The team is paying the price for not enough draft talent in recent years as expected with championship run. Now is the time to change course and go younger. It's an offensive league and ours isn't good enough.
The only reason Toronto went on a run last year was because players weren’t coming to Toronto because of the Covid laws they had. It was like that even in the playoffs . We had a huge advantage in the playoffs even. It won’t be the same again. We need to trade whoever to get young and if you want to keep either siakam and anunoby so be it, but it would be straight up incompetence by front office to stay the course and get nothing from these guys
