Not hard to make the case this would have been a bad trade for LA straight up.

It’s interesting to think about what Shai would look like if he’d stayed in LA. If Kawhi comes there without PG, does Shai develop into this version of himself this quickly?

PG finished 3rd in MVP Voting; he was absolutely worth the cost for LA. They made a WCF and could have won a championship with a healthy Kawhi that year. Contending isn’t easy and this trade has still gone better for them than the Nets-Celtics trade.

That said, I thought this trade was a massive W for us when it happened (we weren’t contending and it was obvious Russ was close to a significant decline while PG injury history was not going to get better) and it’s even moreso with Shai headed towards a top 3 MVP Voting finish as well (next year).

Love PG, but I am so happy we have SGA even more. He wants to stay and build here.

Both teams won. It’s that simple. Clippers swung to become contenders instantly.
