I think she was given a bit of bad luck in the sense that she was following Zumoff. How the hell you supposed to follow that? She’s done a good job though and I’ve come around to liking her commentary.

I think she’s toned it down a bit. But still isn’t that good(I find her annoying). I think people are still being overly supportive because shes a woman and shes gay. If it was some random white dude who was at this same “level” I doubt people are gushing as much, and also probably less people hating as much. I think it’s a bit of “look at us, we’re not sexist or homophobes because we support Kate… we’re good people!”.
Regardless of that, I still personally don’t like her style. I always get vibes that she’s like a nerdy Comicon/video game caster or something, and not a particularly good one. To each their own. I have heard other women announcers that I like before… I just don’t like her specifically. Too bubbly and jokey for me, without being funny. I’m sure she’d be fun socially, but just don’t like her as the announcer I have to listen to every game, and love when there is a national broadcast so I can get a break.
Also, ALA has fallen off a cliff in my book. I guess Zumoff hid a lot of his weaknesses, but it’s like a broken record the same stuff over and over. They are polar oppoites and it doesn’t jive. Ala is an “old school”, man’s man talking like he’s in a lockerroom, which Zumoff was able to tone down and harness. Kate is basically just a giddy nerdy, new age, overly PC person, and every time Ala acts like himself(Man’s man), she basically pushes back and it’s awkward to me. Like Ala is bad. But Kate making fun of him and calling him old, or biased etc just makes it worse for me IMO.
Now Ala reminds me of a whipped guy whenever I see a broadcast, and it’s just… bad. If Kate has to stay, I think they should honestly just try someone else because Ala/Kate doesn’t work for me. I liked Marc Jackson and the Radio guy.

It took a little while for her to settle in and get comfortable with Alaa, get to know the team and their personalities, and generally just find her Philly groove. Now she fits perfectly. She doesn’t need to be Zumoff, she just needs to be Kate Scott.

Imagine being a female commentator, knowing the sexist shit you’ll get regardless but you’re taking over for such a longtime beloved guy like Zumoff. She’s been a 10/10 and I have a lot of respect for the backbone because I don’t have it, Id be in the comments telling people to fuck off.

Next time you watch a game, try to listen to what she’s saying in Zoo’s voice. They actually have a very similar style, which is what I think the Sixers saw in her.
She really doesn’t skip a beat in the play by play even from a critical lens; the only knock you can reasonably say on her is her personal way of exclaiming and expressing herself, which you can take or leave.
She balances the equation well opposite Alaa albeit with a slightly different result that we’re gonna get used to over time.
As someone else said in here, try listening to other announcers. There are probably ~10 legitimately good pairs out there, and we have one of those 10.
I think the Sixers were onto something in picking Kate and she’s gonna be have her own compilation of epic calls one day.
