Tough watching as a Spurs fan, but irregardless of the slight spurs shade, DJ is a real one. His honesty with himself shows in this interview and you can tell he is comfortable in his own skin. He has been through a lot of turmoil, but he still has room to mature and be a more humble player on the court (his antics with the rockets as an example). It's obvious the spurs system don't work for everyone on a personality level, but you cannot deny how integral Pop and SA was for DJ. I think it was more of DJ's narcissistic young ego more than the Spurs' 'mind games' that lead him to feel the way he felt. But it's worked out for him either way. The spurs have nothing but love for DJ, just wished he could have realized that nothing is personal when you not in the rotation early or when you not getting that response or respect that you want. He had a lot of vets ahead of him in SA, but more importantly you have to be coachable in terms of respecting the opponent and the game. From his recent antics with the rockets and Paolo; it sounds like DJ struggled with that aspect under Pop.
DJ always thought of himself as a top level player, then he got selected late first round and felt disrespected, held that against the club that gave him the chance, and took advice from Kawhi because he wanted to be like him. In the end of the day DJ isn't that effective of a player. If the Hawks are 9th with their roster and other players, how far could we really go with DJ without stacking the team. He looks like a third option at best for a title team and he will cost a max. Spurs escaped during the right time. DJ can't get over not being in the Spurs and constantly talks and compares it, and it shows he still isn't over the fact we knew his real talent level. I prefer Keldon or Devin over DJ
Wow! I missed the live stream but this is disgusting! Next time Captain Jack should have a round table and invite Robert Horry and maybe Richard Jefferson to spice it up. Stephen Jackson was a role player. The Spurs have never had any problems with their star players. You should of thought that the big 3 would have gotten on each other's nerves after 15 yrs together. That is the testament to Pop. A great player always welcomes competition and DJ ain't a great player. Pop will probably not say anything about this interview but maybe he should because this is a flat out character assassination. Both Jackson and Murray just sound jealous that they will never be the players the big 3 were. Pop always has told his players to get over themselves but it is apparent DJ never has.
To me, Dejounte validated feelings I had about Tony Parker. Parker was a good player but I believe Stephen Jackson when he said he was selfish. I remember watching 2016 playoffs OKC vs Spurs and I would be getting so fucking pissed that Kawhi would dominate in the first half and then we wouldn't pass him the ball the whole second half and we ended up losing that series mostly cuz we didn't utilize Kawhi. That was mostly on TP, watching him possession after possession run the play to the opposite side of the court from where Kawhi was. Tony obviously was stunting the young guys growth and idc about defending him. Espescially considering how he had an affair with Brent Barry's wife. He doesn't deserve excuses. He won 4 rings, can't take it away but that was more about Duncan and Manu and Pop.
No Tony Parker slander should be allowed
Rui can develop more with the spurs organization without no doubt.
