I actually think this team is a lot closer to good than bad. No one seems to want to mention that they won 48 games last year. This first half of the season has just been really hard, and they still have a positive point differential through it all. Tinker here and there but have the patience to let this thing grow. Playing the slow long rebuild lottery game is super dicey.
I can't believe some people think this roster still works. The Raptors have resulted into playing a zone on defence for 2/3rds of a game cause they are not in sync on defence and is not a winning formula in the NBA. Sure you will win some games when teams are cold but you will lose more than you win
Lean into the youth movement. Trade Fred now and Siakam in the summer for the motherload. Get a high draft pick. Rebuild around Scottie/Precious/OG and our draft pick. Keep Gary. Develop Koloko Banton, etc. Get a high draft pick this year and maybe even next year (if necessary). The tank doesn't need to be long-term. Look at OKC. They won 44 games in a 72-game season in the 2019-2020 season, which is a 0.611 ball. They then tanked the following two years and now are a 500 team with oodles of assets, a superstar, and a young core. For comparison, we won 48 games out of 82 last season and played .585 ball.
What you're missing in your analysis, dear Sean, is that in keeping Fred and Siakam, who are ball dominant, we potentially undermine the development of Scottie who also needs a ball and who is best utilized as a big playmaker.
Sort of top heavy! Good grief…love your show.
