[King] League sources say Jakob Poeltl to Celtics is unlikely, as Boston likely has no room to commit to Poeltl as a starter on a big, long-term contract. Players such as Mason Plumlee, PJ Washington and Jae’Sean Tate could be available and are more realistic

> League sources outside of the Boston organization downplayed the likelihood of a Poeltl acquisition, pointing out that if the Spurs do deal him, the impending free agent would make more sense somewhere he is a better long-term fit. With Horford and Williams each signed through at least the 2024-25 season, Boston likely has no room to commit to Poeltl as a starter on a big, long-term contract.
> Short of adding someone like Poeltl, the Celtics’ front office could still want to give Mazzulla another type of backup big man to use come playoff time. Kornet, for all of his strengths around the rim, isn’t the most versatile defender. Around the league, players such as Mason Plumlee, PJ Washington and Jae’Sean Tate could be available. A couple of those guys aren’t necessarily natural centers but would help the Celtics play a different style than Kornet does. By combining the contracts of Danilo Gallinari and Justin Jackson, the Celtics could absorb upwards of $9 million worth of returning salary in a deal without touching anyone in their current rotation. They also have Payton Pritchard, who has drawn interest as a potential trade chip if the right target emerges
Yeah this was obviously SAS/BOS doing each other some favors (use our name in trade talks and em here’s some cash to take Vonleh off our hands)
the other two I get, but please for the love of god miss me with Mason fucking Plumlee. he’s atrocious on D and has the basketball IQ of a rock
Oooh I’m a fan of Jae’Sean Tate.
Don’t know what has happened to him recently, but he impressed me a few years back, dude is built like a linebacker and is a good defensive player, smart player.
I’d like pj
PJ Washington is interesting, good 3 pt shooter also being on a better team may improve his defensive effort as well
I thought this would be obvious.
this is kinda random but can you imagine being Miles Plumlee? You are 6 foot fucking 11….and yet the shortest of your brothers. Absolutely brutal.
PJ Washington?, I like it
Washington is 6’7” 230 and is averaging 15ppg on that dumpster fire of a team.. Also missed only 1 game this year. Sign me up. I’d take McDaniels also. Hornets def. have a couple interesting pieces that might work.
Tate seems like a player that would fit in. Always seems to hustle and play like he has a chip on his shoulder whenever I’ve watched their games
Pj washington sounds 👍
We need another 4 or 5 desperately. Rob Williams can’t stay healthy and at Horford’s age we can’t bank on vintage performances every night. Plus as much as I like him I don’t think Grant Williams is a starting caliber 4 with his limited skill set.
Everybody is clowning Plumlee but he is on the most realistic side of things. Yes, the guy isn’t great but he is good enough we could run games with him being the starting center/2nd center after Al/Rob if any of those gets injured/needs rest.
The other guys like PJ Washington, Jae’Sean Tate and Jalen McDaniels are all really nice, but they’re now playing 30mpg with Tate playing 20mpg. Would those guys accept to play 15-20mpg and even have DNPs? That’s the role they’re going for in this team. We strip down, ideally, minutes from Rob, Al, Jays and Grant(?). Rob is already at 22.3mpg so there is not much to take out (maybe we even add 2mpg there).
So from Al we’d like to strip down maybe 6mpg, Jayson 3-4mpg, Jaylen 3-4mpg, Grant could do 2mpg, and we would to maintain or increase Robs by 2mpg.
That’s 14mpg. Two players is ideal it seems like, but in reality we have 14mpg available (with injuries that might be an extra 3-5mpg total in a 82 game season?). And yes, I do think we are overplaying guys, specially the Jays, but I don’t see also how you solve this.
I want PJ as a backup wing for the Jays, he’s not fantastic but can put up 15-20 a night, brings more 3-pt shooting to the team. Defense gotta be worked on but I think that can be learned in the Celtics system
PJ Washington would be pretty cool. I feel like we’d probably be better off with a more traditional rim protecting big but Kornet is serviceable at that if we need that sort of matchup. PJ’s 3 point shooting could allow us to roll out some pretty deadly lineups off the bench.
Poeltl and Plumlee are bigs, Tate is a small wing, no one knows what PJ Washington is including him. Weird list.
PJ or Mason would be good pickups
ngl PJ Washington would be very nice
How could we afford PJ next season? Won’t we be running into the same issue as Poeltl?
Plumlee gets stats but his game is so gross.
