Among guards in the East, Tyrese Haliburton was voted 3rd by media, 6th by players, and 8th by fans. That’s the 5th-highest composite rank, leaving him three slots shy of being an All-Star starter. Given de-emphasis of the fan vote, he’s in great position to be one of the East’s 7 reserves.
Three voting groups determined the starters:
• Fans (50%)
• NBA players (25%)
• Media panel 25%)Complete voting results here: https://t.co/M8btg7M0GP

Tyrese beat out Darius Garland and Jalen Brunson among all three blocs, likely ending their candidacies. Harden, Jaylen Brown, Tyrese, and DeMar DeRozan should be the four East guards considered for Reserve spots, though there’s a chance Trae Young sneaks in on reputation despite a sub-par season. LaMelo’s case is probably the weakest of all 10 listed guards (only 22 games played on an abysmal team).
My final Reserve predictions, in order of likelihood, are:
Joel Embiid (100%)
Jaylen Brown (100%)
James Harden (95%)
Jimmy Butler (80%)
Pascal Siakam (75%)
**Tyrese Haliburton (75%)**
Bam Adebayo (50%) **or** DeMar DeRozan (50%)
———cutoff———–
Julius Randle (35%)
Trae Young (30%)
Paolo Banchero (10%)
(…which all together should add up to 7 selections.)
I do think Tyrese makes it but since the coaches vote solely for the reserves how does this show any likelihood he makes the team?
I hope he, Sabonis, and Fox all get in.
