Smart might make some mistakes that make people flip their shit, but at the end of the day he’s a DPOY and he’s VERY important to this team. We’re much better with him than without

Two things that smart does that are huge for us in close games.
First is that after a make he gets the ball and immediately sets the tempo. If we’re running around with our heads cut off he’ll slow it down and call a set play. But if we’re taking our foot off the gas he will push the pace, get the ball to whichever J has the good matchup, and initiate the offense for them with 15+ seconds still on the clock. Compare that to tonight with Tatum walking it up in OT and by the time we set our first screen we’re down to 8 seconds to get a shot off.
The other thing he does is on those not quite end of game possessions when the defense is completely zeroed in on not letting tatum or brown get anything going, if he’s left alone he’ll just bully his way into the paint and either get a good shot at the rim or get fouled. And that change of point of attack is huge for keeping the defense just a little bit more honest when we do go to our stars on the actual end of game possessions.

Showed up big time in OT. When they got the lead and went to iso ball, and had 4 straight empty possessions, with no movement.
