[Lewenberg] Toronto was close to acquiring Deandre Ayton from Phoenix in a sign and trade last summer, according to a source. Perhaps there’s a deal to be made with the Suns, who are said to be one of Anunoby’s many suitors.

  1. I would be so sad if we got Ayton. The dude is empty calories, soft as hell, and not a winning player. Maybe it’s the suns atmosphere/culture, but I doubt it would be any better with us. Not a fan of acquiring him

  2. Close to Maxey, close to Ayton, close to Claxton, close to Giannis….at this point I feel like Masai has a edging kink

[Lewenburg] Toronto was close to having Lebron James, Jokic, Steph Curry, Ryan Reynolds, Dwayne Johnson, Michael Cera, Xi Xinping, and Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ according to a source

For OG, I don’t like going after Deandre. Especially because you have to include Boucher or a combination of other players and I’m skeptical the Raptors would want to move one of their only good bench players to fill out the salary needed.

For Fred? That’s easier to match salaries with just Thad and Fred, and there’s a conversation to be had depending on who you get back for OG elsewhere. Plus he fits as a replacement for CP3 quite nicely.

EDIT: I feel that this is a “where there’s smoke” situation, regardless, given there were some recent reports on the Raptors having several fans of Ayton in the front office or something to that effect.

  5. I think there’s too much smoke around Ayton for this to not eventually happen. I think if he comes here and accepts the role the team envisions for him, he can be a great player. We won’t need him to be Jokic or Embiid

This type of deal makes the most sense for Toronto. I can’t see a trade being made that includes a raw prospect and tons of picks. Would likely consist of a player that helps Toronto now, not later.

Ayton on paper is a fit, but man he is not worth even close to a max. I wouldn’t be excited for him, but I can see why he’d be somewhat intriguing.

  8. JonnyB2_YouAre1

I don’t think Ayton is a championship piece and neither do the Suns.

  9. If he can’t even play hard in the Sun’s system there’s zero chance Nurse is gonna be able to stand this dude.

  10. OGnotAnunoby

So brogdan and now ayton atleast we know the stove is on

  11. Cheechers23

Masai turning into Danny Ainge with all these “almost” deals lol

  12. The_Living_L

If I’m suns I do it and than trade whatever is needed for Jakob, that team can win a chip

  13. Winter_Purpose8695

Because we really need a center real bad I don’t even know how to feel about this…

  14. absolutebaboon16

Judging by the comments here the Lhoenix Suns were successful in making Ayton the fall guy for their massive chokes.

If they trade Ayton without a plan at big they’ll.be shutting their window

  15. hoennking502

The suns are 8-1 without Ayton this season

Dude another Drummond with attuide issues. Not worth it

Raptors go from having no centre in 4 years (can’t include the abysmal signings of Baynes/Len) to wanting one the most expensive centres in the league in Ayton. They were also linked to KP in Dallas last year.. even Gobert? doesn’t make sense. It’s a complete 180 from this small ball forward project. Sounds like they want a star studded centre but most them are not worth their current contracts including the 3 named above. Ayton is a good young prospect but is he really a guy who’s going to take us far in the playoffs? The raptors are settling at this point and I know Masai would never go into full rebuild mode so this is basically settling for a mini retool. Getting back the best we can I guess.

  17. TJStrawberry

Idk about him. He doesn’t seem like a defensive player and is shaky in the pick and roll defence. Nurse would bench his ass immediately

  18. Responsible_Chain551

We are lack of center, but is Ayton the right player we are targeting?
He’s pretty soft from the limit game i saw.
Also he’s price may be the most of all the candidate

  19. KINGTHANOS8

    Nah no thanks.

Maybe we could try for him after the draft lottery, but not this trade deadline.

If we land #1 in the lottery for example, we won’t need a C.

I’d rather trade OG for the best package from NO or MEM.

And we can trade Fred to ORL.

If we don’t land #1 in the Lottery then we can explore a trade with Gary or Pascal for a shit load of picks plus Ayton with PHX.

    Basically, I’d rather wait.

  20. LifeofWalk

Ayton+Ish for OG+Boucher? With Ish we’ll be able to get someone who consistently plays 15 minutes off the bench…for now

  21. ChampagneAbuelo

Ayton is the softest player in the league man. We don’t want him

  22. Rare-Profile6867

If we can get Ayton for Fred that would be a solid deal. Just look at Ayton’s 2021 playoff stats. He had a bunch of 20 point plus 15+ rebounds games at 23 years of age. That is better than JVs stats and we loved him. Locking up Ayton with Koloko would mean we are good for Centres for the next 5 years.

  23. OG_anunoby3

Price for Ayton should be much lower now. Last summer Toronto would be giving a haul. Now there’s is legit package around OG without mortgaging the future. It’s more if a one for one deal almost with salary matching, and picks to balance for both sides.

  24. illmatic2112

I don’t mind giving Ayton a go. Maybe he buys in, maybe our dev team/coaching staff can get through to him better than the Suns. We need a big, even if to just add pressure at the rim and run more effective PnR’s

  25. 288bpsmodem

Who wants that’s bitch? Fuck no please.

  26. This is going to sound insane, but I think I’d rather pay OG what Ayton’s making than trade 25y/o OG for 24 y/o Ayton.

Ayton definitely has more upside, but if he doesn’t improve I’m not sure he’s a winning player. Really feeling those Drummond comparisons. I don’t think our chances of building a winning team with Ayton are much better than an overpaid OG.

  27. _Gourmand

I don’t get the Ayton hype. I wouldn’t even want him on the team. I think Scottie already decided that he’s not that guy
