    Very smart

Both guys would be silly to lose for a possible rental

This is the gist of the article if you don’t want to read all of it.

    > Irving comes to the Mavericks at a time when it has never been more clear that the team needs change. Dallas sits sixth in the Western Conference, and its 28-26 record is its worst through 54 games since Dončić’s rookie year. If Dallas has its way, this won’t be the only roster change that occurs prior to Thursday’s 3 p.m. ET trade deadline, according to team sources granted anonymity so that they could speak freely. The decision-makers are continuing to explore other trades, and it’s clear the roster lacks wing defending and depth after Finney-Smith’s departure.

    > But even if the Mavericks become the league’s best offense until the season’s end, it’s everywhere else that the questions arise. The team’s 23rd-ranked defense won’t be helped by Irving’s addition or the departure of Finney-Smith, though the Mavericks hope to bolster it with another trade later this week.

    > The team’s future, with Irving becoming an unrestricted free agent this summer, must be addressed with a looming decision whether to re-sign him. In the wake of this trade, league sources believe the Mavericks wouldn’t have traded two starters for Irving if they didn’t have plans to re-sign him this summer. He’s eligible for a two-year, $83 million extension with the team up until July 30, or a four-year, $198.5 million deal this summer.

    > If Dallas doesn’t re-sign Irving this summer, the team would have around $30 million in cap space in an uninspiring free agency market to retool its roster around Dončić. Several sources indicated the team prioritized Josh Green, a blossoming 22-year-old wing, to not being included in the trade despite Brooklyn’s strong interest in him. Dallas also made sure to hold onto rookie guard Jaden Hardy, a raw combo guard who currently has minor trade value, but meaningful upside in the coming seasons.

What would including Hardy replace? The 2029 first or the 2 seconds?

  4. edmarcake

Hardy is kinda untouchable as of now because hes raw and he will be good in the future. He can be an asset or a good rotation player.

  5. Active_Page_3886

Maybe I didn’t give Nico enough credit. Neither one of those guys should be traded anytime soon

  6. Luka kyrie Josh green maxi and wood would be a legit team with thj hardy bullock as the main bench rotation

  7. highfalutinman

Hey, if Jaden can learn some of Kyrie’s sweet, SWEET moves (and none of the crazy) that’ll be swell. Like holy shit there isn’t a better ballhander he could imitate given his size and profile

Plus its time to watch Josh blossom even more

  8. W

Josh Green will be a VERY interesting player in 2 years from now.

  9. jfrodriguez1983

Need to secure an extension with Green this summer. Can’t wait for him to make another jump next season and he end up costing more.

  10. Axisofcoolio

Develop both of them further and then they become linchpins for another big trade in a couple of years. Smart move

  11. Butterfly_Scape

this means josh is 100% getting extended in the summer. probably on a team friendly contract too. great news.

  12. HotsHartley

Cuban spin control in full swing

Including DFS is a stake in the heart, so now good to be reminded of who’s left.

Maxi, DP, Bullock (if we rehab him back to playoff level) are good keepers.

Then JG, Hardy, spot minutes for Bertans.

That’s like most of a playoff rotation, with the wild card being what we can get for Wood and/or THJ. Two more rotation pieces that can defend, and I’ll feel a lot better.

  13. Low-Bug-4156

Nets def could’ve got hardy if they wanted to but him and cam does the same thing so I see why they didn’t want him

  14. epitome1986

That’s smart, their value is only going to go up. Whether they keep them or trade them later on right now is the lowest their value will be

  15. 50bucksback

Only way sending Green would have made sense was if Brooklyn also took Bertans and THJ

  16. KhanQu3st

Good. Green looks excellent and is still very young, and Hardy looks interesting.

  17. pancakesontheweekend

The Mavs actually holding on to young and promising talent?

We’ve entered a new timeline, boys.

  18. ElToberino

Remember during Green’s rookie season when the biggest bust of the draft according to this sub?

  19. QBert999

Very good to hear. I’m really high on Green and I think Hardy could be great too. I really want the Mavs to try to develop these guys.

  20. Green or Hardy is going to need to really step up for this trade to be successful.

I am glad we kept both of them

  21. Good we’re all on the same page there. Green (already is) and Hardy have the potential to be major pieces for us. Have been saying forever it would have to be an insane deal to move them

  22. If this gets Josh into the starting lineup to replace DFS, I consider this a big win. He could be greater value if he gets more play time.

  23. jm810112

Sad to see Dorian go but riding with Josh was the correct move. So much upside
