It all depends on what those protections are, and what it converts into.
Until we know that we cant prematurely judge this trade.
A heavily protected 1st, that becomes 2nds the following year, would be bad.
A pick that is say lottery protected in 24, top 10 in 25 then top 8 or something, plus the two 2nds, is a good outcome if the Raptors stay around the play-in range. (Ie. A pick in the teens would be a good return if that is what it becomes).

Does this jump out to anyone else as anything but us getting a little shafted here? If the pick isn’t protected, then great, but Jakob really added a defensive intensity that I think was valuable to the team. Sad to see him go but the best of luck to him

Before everyone freaks out, let’s wait to see what that protection is. If it’s something like top five, this is probably a fair market trade. Not necessarily a great one like San Antonio wanted with two firsts, but more or less what you would expect the market to want to pay for a player on an expiring. If it’s something like lottery protected… Then yeah this is a terrible trade.

The return isn’t the 2 first rounders the Spurs were posturing for, but this is what you get for someone who:
– isn’t a top 10 centre in the league right now
– likely won’t be on the floor in high leverage playoff situations
– will be an unrestricted free agent in a few months
I love Jakob but, realistically, this is the offer.
