Ben Simmons and the Brooklyn Nets could be headed for a disaster

Coming off two straight lackluster games, and some concerning words about Jacque Vaughn regarding the rotations, it’s time to look at Ben Simmons and his ultimate future with the Nets. It’s an interesting and somewhat weird situation in looking at what the future holds for both him and the team. The Locked on Nets guys discuss Simmons’s recent performance and how he might be out of the rotation for the time being. It comes on the heels of a weak game against the Knicks with uninspired play.

  1. In general, it take far less time to make a mess than it do to clean up one. Without going over how or when too much, we've been in the process of cleaning up a mess this season. With Steve Nash fired, Kd and Kyrie traded, I think we're off to a good start. It's down to "what do we do about Ben."

  2. Nets are a horrible organization for Ben. Nets prefer the Joe Harrises of the world over athletes with length. Free Ben

    #FreeBem

  3. I think a consensus of opinion would suggest that the Nets should be "patient" and try to rehab Ben Simmons, in the hope that he'll become more productive, before his contract expire. (good luck with that) He shouldn't be given minutes, in the rotation, unless he earn them, in sprite of the fact he's the highest paid player on the roster. Going forward, he should be given situational PT, only. Of course this kind of arrangement wont be good for the team moral but the options of giving of valuable assets to trade him or buying him out seems out of the question, presently.

  4. Ben is cooked. Sad to see someone with this size and physical gifts crumble mentally. He’s stealing money at this point. Wonder is Nets can sue?

  5. @lockedonnets it's definitely being looked at the wrong way. He said the same thing about Ben when Kyrie has the ball. What is Ben look like Slashing He's just trying to figure out the role for Ben now. Claxton minutes were cut down along with Ben's along with Sumner because he's trying to really figure out what the other guys can do

  6. The only acceptable options as I see it are either he gets better or he for the most part sits and we are stuck with the contact. Attaching assets to him in a trade would be wasting assets. I don’t trust Sean Marks one iota to handle this situation

  7. @lockedonnets ben was running with shooters. Wasn't producing enough points against the Knicks von was talking about changing that strategy because there wasn't getting enough rebounding and dayron was slowing down the pace of the game for that second unit

  8. Sean Marks may be good at finding “diamonds in the rough,” but when it comes to handling the Crown Jewels he’s a disaster.

  9. The player that has been hurt probably the most by the Nets coddling of Ben Simmons and even giving him 15 minutes at this point is Edmond Sumner, who for the most part has played pretty well. He should be getting those back up point minutes at this point.

  10. Listen, I’m in the clinical profession and if I was working with Ben Simmons I’d actually advise that he think about walking away from professional basketball at least for the short term. Maybe come back in two years because he’s still young. More than anything I see a player who is completely burned out by the process. Think about a coworker that we’ve all worked with who is completely burnt out and divested. That’s what I see when I watch Ben Simmons a guy going through the motions.

  11. Doug, you’re absolutely correct a player has to agree to a buyout but all those years back they got Deron to agree and they stretched the rest of his contract. And that was a worse relationship arguably

I’m not so sure Ben is emotionally invested in the game of basketball and if you went to him and said hey, you’re not part of our future you could definitely sit on the bench but we’re not gonna play you or will give you 60 million of the 80 and you can go home and get right physically and mentally and potentially come back to the league in two years when you’re right. I’m not sure Ben given the situation would be against that if discussed appropriately.

  12. Doug mentioned limited options when it comes to Ben and moving him but I think there might be one more.

You find a team that stuck in mediocrity meaning they are not a contender but they are not in rebuild. Maybe they decide it’s time trade away some older veterans and start over. The Bulls comes to mind as a possibility. They Have Zach Levine and DeRozen and Nik is coming off the books. They are kind of stuck in no man’s land. Could Nets package Ben with say Cam Thomas, and Royce. With a few protected picks. You now have two veteran players that are easier to move off to somewhere else if you need to.

  13. You want them to baby a man who’s deciding to not work on his game or maybe the mental aspect of it. He’s being paid millions of dollars my man. Gloves have to come off. Ben has been doing this crap too long.

  14. Bro it’s so simple he isn’t 100% and a study found that players who had surgery played significantly fewer games the following season, and a larger decrease in PER” as compared to those who with the injury who did not. However, it did find those players typically return to their normal level of play the second season after surgery

  15. Buying him out shouldn’t even be an option, just trade em. There always a sucka out there that thinks they’ll be able to bring him in and miraculously turn his career and who he’s shown repeatedly who he is. Might not have the desired market the nets would hope for, but I guarantee he’ll have some type of market

  16. They aren’t losing because of Ben Simmons. You Ben Simmons haters are clowns

  17. Wow, Simmons contract is an anvil around Brooklyns neck. The Harden get and trade is by far Marks worst move. Most GMs would get canned just for that.

  18. First time watching on YouTube. This is not the Doug I pictured in my head 😂.
The good things I see from Ben makes it hard for me to move on. Forwards that can switch on defense and can handle the ball and run offense are valuable. As someone who has hurt their back, I think it’s his back. The only problem is the money.

  19. I can live with watching play but he has to stop the stupid dribble handoff’s, stop give up the ball as soon as he crosses half court, stop the dumb one handed hook shots , instead go up strong, work on your game bro

  20. Im not as doom and gloom as you are Doug. Holding out hope next year he will be fully healthy. Mentally he will always be a headcase. He looks like absolute garbage now but we wont get anything for a trade ans whats the point of trading him this summer will still be over the tax and cant sign a big name free agent

  21. He needs to take his talents down under to the international league because it’s a wrap for this man in the nba lol. Damn Nets came from first to worse lol.

  22. Anyone "feeling bad" for Ben Simmons hasnt paid attention closely to him since college. Ben was an Australian kid that grew too tall for sports like Rugby and soccer, but he could run fast and jump high. Ben simply found a mode to make lots of money. The NBA can make you rich if you have certain attributes. He did just enough in a sport that he had zero passion for to make a fortune. Do not "feel" anything for this guy. He's got waay more money than any one of us will ever imagine to see in our lifetimes. He does NOT care about NOT playing…being benched, sitting in the fourth….or whatever. What he DOES care about are Lambos, vacations, Jewelry, Social Media followings, fashionable clothes, online video games (theres video of this), and women…lots of women, mostly thots. He just likes the fame and notoriety of being an NBA player. Its the NBA analysts and pundents who keep talking like he should be this and that. BEN. COULD. CARE. LESS. REPEAT! BEN DOES NOT GAF ABOUT ANYTHING RELATED TO BASKETBALL…NOTHING RELATED, NOT EVEN A DISTANT COUSIN TO BASKETBALL. NOTHING. He just wants his money and his fame. Don't be goofy like these people on tv "feeling bad" for him. "feeling bad" for Ben only gets him more opportunities to hoodwink another organization into thinking he'll provide value all the while refusing to try to improve in the least bit

  23. If it takes 2 ; if it takes 3 first round picks…move him……
he cannot be considered a good locker room presence…. I followed / watched on league pass the 76ers for years….the process was so fantastic to observe…. Ben Simmons’ teams always lose on the road… 76ers never started winning road road games until he left. ….
He made his decision to skip extra skill set improvement practices in order to sit and watch a movie/ etc…. Now his skills are simply on the decline much earlier than predictable cause of that.
Live with reality and move on.

  24. Philadelphia 76ers wrecked this kids career. Matisse Thybulle said it perfectly after playing his first game for Portland – “It’s funny, like, defense comes so naturally to me. It’s just this instinctual thing. If you put me on a basketball court, I’m going to figure out how to make plays defensively. Similarly, if you put Dame on a basketball court, give him a ball, he’s going to find ways to make shots”. Isn’t it nice to be appreciated for what he brings to the table rather than trashing for what he doesn’t bring to the table. 😊

  25. Ben Simmons sucks and if you think otherwise you’re not watching basketball he can’t even be a defender off the dribble. Even if you go back to his old ways he still one dimensional it’s easy to guard

  26. The nets should start 2 scorers and 3 defenders Dinwiddie and Curry or cam Thomas with mikal bridges. Nic Claxton and maybeor royce oneal or dfs. They don't have enough scorers. Always have 2 scorers on the court

  27. I think he's a part-time player the rest of this season, but hopefully he gets his head and body together in the offseason.
