The Toronto Raptors are going into one of their most important offseasons in recent memory, after trading away significant future assets to acquire Jakob Poeltl from the San Antonio Spurs at the trade deadline there is pressure on the front office to put out a competitive team fo next season. Part of the troubles in ensuring this is possible will derive from Toronto being able to retain their key players heading towards free agency in Fred VanVleet, Gary Tret Jr., and the newly acquired Jakob Poeltl. While Masai Ujiri and the front office are already facing cap concerns, is this a dire situation unfolding in front of the eyes of the fans?
There is a key element that is going to help the Raptors in many ways and that is the bird rights of the players. This however is not just in the sense of being able for the Raptors to sign them but it also is going to circumvent the risk of losing them for free because of the reason outlined in this video. There is a possibility of disaster for the Raptors this summer, but the situation actually looks much better than you might think.

Someone correct me if im wrong but couldnt we sign a good free agent and still sign all three if we're willing to go 'deep' into the salary cap tax? If we add another 20 mil piece(s) at a guard position thats a pretty deep team and potentially a contender (especially if porter is healthy). Is it good enough to convince mlse to spend that money? Probably not, but its a possibility
