The Phoenix Suns look ready to move on from Chris Paul, but it won’t be easy to find a replacement. Kyrie Irving and James Harden are pipe dreams, so who’s the backup plan at point guard?

Brendon Kleen of @justbasketballfans breaks down Phoenix’s options, including Devin Booker at point guard, other guards like Fred VanVleet or Gabe Vincent, and more.

  1. AYTON NEED TO BE TRADED!!!!!!!!!!!!…….WHOEVER THE TAKEBACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Phoenix is really a WNBA CITY……Phoenix Mercury have Brittney Griner and 2 WNBA Titles. The Suns have 0 NBA Titles and 12 different head coaches since the year 2000. Talk about an unstable front office. You can't count the number of embarrassing playoff losses to the LAKERS, SPURS and KINGS. In 55 seasons the Suns have 0 NBA Titles. Suns should move to Boise or Kansas City.

  3. The fanbase is way too hung up on replacing CP3 with a defined quality PG. Before the KD trade, the Suns relied heavily on CP3 and the PG position. CP3 was the offensive engine who had to generate offensive momentum every possession with complex sets and actions. That was what got defenses off balance and allowed the Suns to gain momentum with their ball movement and actions.

The KD trade has changed that. We now have two of the most elite offensive players and iso scorers in the NBA. Having a PG generate offense the way CP3 has would be a nice luxury which would make our offense even better, but it’s no longer a necessity.

This is why the Suns had Okogie run the ball up the floor late in the regular season. They were preparing him to bring the ball up the floor in the playoffs in event that CP3 gets injured. Unfortunately Okogie didn’t give us much in the playoffs (partially on Monty IMO), but the Suns can get away just fine running Point Book now, or having a guy who can just bring the ball up the floor without turning the ball over. I think of Mario Chalmers on LeBron’s Heat teams as a perfect example of what the Suns COULD get by with and still win a championship… We don’t need another CP3 or a highly touted PG anymore. The Suns have a lot of work to do this off-season and finding a skilled PG is at the bottom of their priority list. They need shooters who can space the floor and punish defenses for pressuring Book & KD. They need an established starting rotation, one or two established bench players who can be counted on in the playoffs to produce, and defensive personnel to fit Vogel’s scheme.

  4. Sounds like the Suns may have made an interesting play leaking the conversations with Paul. According to Wok, it sounds like there is a trade market for Paul, which makes sense. Under the new CBA this contract has a ton of value. Teams like the Warriors, Bucks, Clippers, those teams who have really high salary could see this as relief. He'll have even more value at the trade deadline. I'm interested to see what they can get back.

  5. I'd love to see Shamet and a few second round picks for Monte Morris. He'd be a really solid pick up. With some of Shamets contract being not fully guaranteed the next few years there could be value for them cause Beal and Porzingis will be expensive. I'd love Bruce Brown on this team also. Not sure about point guard but would love to have him. Also what's up with everyone's love for Van Fleet. He did not have a good year this past year. Defensively he is not what he once was. Looked like a liability at times. Maybe Vogel and a fresh start helps him out but he's not a much have on this team
