Looked as good as you can for a second rounder. He has a well rounded game. Nothing pops out, but he can shoot, put the ball on the floor, nice touch around the rim, and seems to have pretty good bball IQ.
I looked and looked and looked for a reason exactly why a 6’8” 225 pound NBA body ready SF who won the NCAA championship in 2022, was a consensus 1st team all-American in 2023, and was the Big 12 player of the year in 2022 fell all the way to the 51st overall pick in the 2nd round of the draft…
These are the only negatives I was able to find…
He’s already 22, which in some NBA circles is too old for a rookie.
He played a game his freshman year, and broke his ankle in his 2nd game.
He declared for the draft after his sophomore year, and withdrew.
He got arrested for suspicion of DUI his junior year, and was suspended 3 games.
He declared for the draft after his junior year, and withdrew.
Finally, he declared for the draft after his senior year.
It was a long and bumpy road to get here, but he’s here. He could use a coaching staff that’s willing to develop him and take the time on him.
He got injured and played his ass off. He did a bad thing and stayed in school and kept playing hard.
I love redemption stories, and I like this kid a lot.
