Pascal: I want to stay in Toronto
Raptors FO: We don’t take too kindly to our star players wanting to be in Toronto, historically speaking, with their loyalty and what have you
Cheechers23
Fucking hell just extend him Masai what are you doing

I’m indifferent on pascal going or staying I just want the direction to be clear.

It’ll be a wild turnaround if we go from everyone here assuming Pascal is out and we’re rebuilding to trading picks for Herro and pushing for a playoff run.
That’s a real blue balls situation for the tank fans

Raptors Show Notes Part 2
On the front office’s part in the situation:
Will Lou mentions that he talked to Bobby at one of the games
>They say that “we’re not in the leaking game”
>Not part of it
>Their stuff gets rumoured out there, just part of the game
>He asked Bobby about the “hard to deal with report” at summer league
>Bobby scoffed at the notion and said who “is easy to deal with?”
>He talked to Masai last week but knows Bobby a bit more
>He saw Zach Lowe talked to multiple members of the Raptors org at the games
>They want to see what’s out there, explore their options for Pascal
>His sense is they don’t necessarily see that good deal out there right now
>He says that the front office doesn’t care if the agents are upset
>They care more of the player isn’t an option any more for them.
Assorted Notes:
>Fred wanted a new challenge
>Tannenbaum still going to be governor of the Raptors
>Hawks contacted Pascal’s people before the draft, faced some pushback
>Do have some open roster spots
>Raptors need another bench guard

I really don’t understand management’s reluctance to engage on extension talks. Pascall is young enough that he could be around and maybe good enough still to be an impact player during the next solid competitive window if it happens quick enough. Pascal is a guy that WANTS to stay unlike some of the bigger names who’ve been in this city so it’s all strange to me especially seeing how players want him around too.

they really refuse to pick a direction eh

Some folks love to gossip and spread rumours (incidents and accidents, hints and allegations) that demonstrate that they don’t have even the very basic fundamentals of “what’s going on” with professional sports.
1. Every great player gets talked about in trade discussions. Especially near the end of their contract. As a professional, if you don’t want to be in that discussion then don’t aspire to be great.
As a fan, appreciate it. Don’t start nervously speculating. It’s like being married to a stunner. You either bask in the sunlight of pure envy and jealousy or you let your insecurities lead you to drive them away with your rumours, instigations, hints and allegations. As Joan Rivers often said, “Oh grow up”.
2. Every professional team will engage in trade discussions with anyone who initiates them. Otherwise, who’s going to talk to “you” when you want someone? Stop freaking out about someone possibly wanting your girl!
The Raptors and their key players are obviously on good terms and they talk. At the end of the trade rumour talks, the season begins and you want those key players to play like they want to be here.
So tell me, why would anyone with press credentials, get involved in spreading rumours and speculations that are not helpful? Like..
“Oh, Pascal is pissed so he didn’t go to Summer League”
“Oh Poeltl and OG ain’t on speaking terms because they didn’t go either”.
“GTJ didn’t go because he doesn’t want to spoil his TV debut in this season’s Eligible Batchelors”.
Word, chill.

Kind of feel bad for Pascal – His names’ been dangling in the media on a daily basis for months as a trade piece. Meanwhile, I feel like he’s the type of guy that is in love with the franchise, grew up in TO as an NBA player and went from a nobody to a star player in our system and I bet you’d almost have to drag him kicking and screaming out of the organization. On top of that, he’s got all the financial incentive to want to re-sign with us.
Meanwhile, I don’t even know why we’re trying to trade the guy, he’s a top 10-15 guy in the league , he’s versatile and he plays both ends of the floor and every trade theory I see involves giving us a worse player and future draft picks, when your chances of getting another guy as good as Siakam in a draft pick is probably like 10% –
I have no notion that we aren’t already a competitive team with Siakam and all of our other guys right now, we just need better playmaking/ball handling and we’ve got enough assets to swing that without trading our best player. Unless we end up getting a guy like Harden/Lillard or just getting a goldmine of lottery picks , I don’t see any trade scenario involving Siakam that makes sense for us. People are acting like the guy’s washed or somehow impeding our young guys – Like if we ditch Siakam, Scottie Barnes is going to turn into magic johnson or something. The guy’s not even 30, entering his 8th season where he’s steadily improved every year he’s been in the league. Sure, he’s not perfect – he’s got some limitations offensively, but he’s definitely our best offensive player.
Not sure why we don’t just sign him to an extension now and then look at trading him down the road if the right offer becomes available. Tired of hearing about all of these Hawks/Pacers trades that involve us getting a bunch of second rate players for him. It’s like all of these beat reporters just think “Wow, this team would be way better with Siakam – let’s just spout out a bunch of random trash trades that involve said team getting Siakam while giving up nothing substantial to their roster in return” It’s like, yeah no shit you’d be better with Siakam, every team in the league would be better with Siakam.

It’s not about wanting to stay in Toronto. He wants the absolute make amount of money he can get. If he was a perennial MVP candidate then you pay the man but he’s a proven #2 and you can’t go all in on a #2 like Washington with Beal
