We aren’t going to sign any marquee free agent with cap.
But I also don’t see the ownership paying tax if we aren’t at least semi-finals bound.
They are going to try to sign up both and dump other contracts to not pay tax. Which is the right thing to do.
If that’s the case, Boucher will be traded by the deadline for a player on expiring and unless they can get Gary on a really good deal he’ll probably be shopped for an expiring and a pick at the deadline.
This also explains why we haven’t heard anything else regarding Gary’s extension since FA

I cannot stress enough how stupid it would be to go into this season without a trade or extension for OG and Siakam after what has happened the last 4 off-seasons
I get that OG is almost certainly hitting free agency because a max extension won’t be enough for him to sign. That’s fair. But given how they are refusing to discuss trades for him, they better be willing to offer whatever it takes to keep him, even if it’s a max. With Fred, they had a ceiling they wouldn’t exceed, and it’s why he walked. If they refuse to trade OG but know he’s gonna be a UFA, they have to be willing to pay him as much as it takes to keep him. Letting OG walk when he’s had as much trade interest as he has over the last few years is a fireable offence.
We also cannot fucking go into the season with Pascal and Gary as expiring contracts. We have to either ink them to extensions or trade them by the time the season starts. We just got burned going into free agency with 2 key unrestricted free agents and one of them walked. All it takes is 1 team to overpay. We cannot even risk the possibility of losing them for nothing.
I think TO needs to sign OG/Pascal – they’re no brainers
We aren’t getting any better free agents coming in to replace them and even if we max them both, they’re going to be valuable trade assets.
I mean, what’s the holdup? Are we expecting Scottie Barnes to become Michael Jordan? Are we saving cap space to sign Giannis/Shai as free agents? This team is hopeless without Pascal and OG is one of the most elite 3&d players in the entire damn league

Trading pascal seems like the way out but getting trash in return might make it a hard pill to swallow.
With the chaos of the last few seasons, I don’t think you could convince management that hitting the tax with this is a smart plan. This just isn’t good enough to bank on.
I love when people assume that the FO hasn’t already tried to do what they want them to do.
If Pascal doesn’t want to extend right now, you can’t force him. If there are no good trades, you can’t force it.
If OG doesn’t want to extend and shouldn’t, how can they force him?
People need to stop acting like that they care and know more about the team than the FO. Their reputation and job relies on winning.
