lmao no shame in not knowing what you’re talking about anymore

  2. Dumbass statement. This ain’t the NFL. The last few spots on the roster are basically just for the locker room guys.

Edit : Bunch of you guys replying don’t know what locker room guys are. Nobody’s saying locker room guys aren’t valuable. Udonis Haslem is literally a locker room guy. They add value, of which I’m sure the Antetokounmpo bros are doing. Plus, tons of G league guys have made NBA teams even with locker room guys already in the team. Using Miami as an example is literally a contradiction. They have Haslem + they’ve added dudes from the G League. It’s not one or the other. A team has 15 players, by playoff time, it reduces to 8-9. Even if 2 spots are given the Giannis’ bros, there’s still 3-4 left for teams to develop from the G League. Seriously, this is just the media trying to stir up drama and ya’ll are falling for it. Time will tell if players are just afraid to speak up, but right now, if the organization and teammates have no issue with this setup, then why should anyone else?

  3. beer_down

Oh no the Bucks won’t have room for another end of the bench garbage time player. Whatever will they do

  4. Shingorillaz

If any NBA team needs the 15th roster spot to contribute they’re probably winning 10 games max.

  5. Weird-Smoke5090

Lillard made Portland roster his cousin, who was probably the worst player in the entire nba.

  6. FredroTheHomie

    Jesus wept, man.
It sucks how shows like this are the most watched by casual basketball fans & they gobble the narratives up like gospel.

I can hardly talk about NBA at family parties anymore, my brother-in-law/cousins/whoever really echo these takes now.

  7. dont-YOLO-ragequit

I don’t see the link between the 2 honnestly.

Every playoffs, the rotation shrinks to 9 players making positions 15 to 10 a season one.

This is how Juwan Howard was a player during the Heatles, why Udonis was always on the roster, why Deandre Jordan had a spot.

Championship contending teams are not built like the average teams, they are salary and role heavy at the top with little room for significant rotation mins except for injuries and for load management. Some players are only there to be “counterfeit Bron,Curry,Luka” in practice.

If Giannis’ Brothers are no trouble, train at 4AM, 10AM, 1PM, 11PM and 1AM with Giannis to do what the coaching staff can’t (long limbs and wingspan, do what the tape exposed about Giannis) and the do the same around the team then there is no problems with this.

Giannis seems to want changes in the no 2-9 spot.
Also, the more money they get to the brothers the less Giannis has to be bothered about what they do of their spare time and money.

  8. jumboponcho

Thainis is taking the Deandre Jordan vibes spot, that ain’t affecting the roster

  9. TryHardPT

Yeah dude I don’t think those last two spots in a roster are meant to make the roster that much better.

In fact if 2 spots makes for a happier Giannis and therefore a better Giannis it is much better than 2 random locker room guys.

  10. yungchigz

Shannon getting his information from Twitter trolls and looking dumb as fuck repeating it lol Giannis has one brother on the Bucks roster and he contributes more to the team as a leader and teammate than the majority of 15th men in the league who don’t play either, people really just be talking nonsense for the sake of talking

  11. whiskeyinthejaar

The Knicks and the Bulls would happily offer 3 roster spots to his family members and friends.

  12. Hot-Broccoli7973

I see both sides, in one sense it’s two bottom of the barrel roster spots, it’s not an impact anyway, keep your star happy…on the other end I can see why someone will say, well that’s two extra spots you can give away to some diamond the round 2nd pick that you can develop down the road.

Tbh imo this is a non issue, I think if the bucks truly needed those spots they tell Giannis and he would be ok with it. Espn just needs something to bark about

  13. DwnTwnLestrBrwn

This is what happens when you live a “breakfast in bed in a private jet” life for too long. You lose your grasp on reality.

  14. FrankNtilikinaOcean

I get y’all saying that the last 2-3 bench spots don’t matter, but there’s a difference between having Thanasis take up a spot with no development in sight & having a young prospect sit at the end and learn over time.

Yes, Thanasis is there to appease Giannis but it still is a waste of a spot that the Bucks can use to develop another player to step in when a rotation guy gets too expensive, etc.

  15. High-ly_Questionable

If you are worried about your 14th and 15th dude on your roster you aren’t winning anything.

  16. sethuaaaa

If they could get rid of both brothers I bet they could get dame and 3peat

  17. Can we note upvote this shit just because it’s obviously dumb and easy to argue against? “Guys look at this dumb thing Shannon Sharpe said, what a moron right?” yeah, so don’t upvote it.

  18. McWhorter44

Keita Bates-Diop was the 15th man for the Spurs for a couple years and worked his way up and now is a potential starter for the contending Suns. People in here acting like the 15th spot is useless are straight up dumb and only arguing it because you guys have to be contrarians to everything ever said

  19. PolarBearLaFlare

Players 13-15 on the bench only get like 10 combined minutes an entire season anyways lmao those spots weren’t important anyways

  20. throwawayacc407

I don’t see Bucks fans being upset that the last spot on the roster is being used to keep their Superstar player happy. Giannis made the Bucks relevant again and brought them a Championship; without him the team goes straight back to the lottery for a decade. Any other GM would have done the same.

  21. therealunbread

We won a fucking chip dude? Contenders for like 5 years. I don’t think we’re limited because Thanasis is an overpaid hype man? Jrue’s bricks and Khris’s health limit our talent far more than him

  22. All these talking heads these days are just YouTubers on a bigger stage.

  23. Cannot_See_Toes

They are minimum player guys, what minimum player could the Bucks get that will improve the roster at the 13-15 spots? Shannon is just talking out of his ass

  24. CoryGotLean

His brothers aren’t having a negative impact on the team. They take whatever money and role on the roster that the Bucks offer. I’d say it’s fair to keep them as long as they don’t create conflict for the team.

  25. bonez288

Funny how online everyone cries about Nepotism but as soon as it gets brought up here about Giannis’ brothers no one seems to have an issue in this comment section.

Just for clarification I’ve never really cared about nepotism but while Shannon isn’t completely right, he’s not entirely wrong either.

I’m sure Giannis wants changes in the more active rotation, but also having your brothers take up spots from guys who are potentially trying to prove themselves and try to show they can get on the court isn’t a great thing either. The only good thing about having the brothers signed is that it actively makes Giannis happy having them around I’m sure.

  26. Yinanization

Yeah, they really needed those two deep bench spots during the playoffs.

  27. HotspurJr

I’m curious what percentage of guys who earn the 15th spot on the roster ever actually become rotation players. It absolutely happens sometimes, but man, is it rare.

Which is to say, the opportunity cost of giving those spots to Giannis’s brothers is damn small.

  28. brightcoconut097

Looking at how many comments in an hour.

You guys eat this dumb shit up and this is why they keep having these shows on.

  29. PopcornDrift

Y’all complain about hot take artists but whenever a hot take artist has a dumb ass take it’s at the top of this subreddit within the hour lol people clearly want this shit

  30. Mygaffer

The 14th and 15th roster spots are typically not taken up by players who are going to contribute a lot to winning on the court.

  31. charlesfluidsmith

    15th men don’t matter.

    Trash take.

Every team has bums on the bench.

  32. Pyritedust

You know, he’s right. We should wave thanasty and Alexander the Great and instead build a Time Machine and get 80’s Hakeem and younger Scottie Pippen.

  33. shish-kebab

One is playing for the G-league, the other occupy the 15th spot which doesn’t get minutes deep in playoff regardless of the team. 2 weeks at ESPN and the dude is already making narratives

  34. popcrnshower

He has a point, it also is a huge sign of nepotism. Milwaukee has done everything they can to appease him.

  35. Templar_Gus

Thanasis is the perfect last man on a roster. Keeps the star happy, good in the locker room, and he goes in the end of games in blowouts and keep asses in seats because he just tries to dunk on everyone.

  36. Having Thanasis, his energy, positivity, encouragement, is a much better investment than a role player who wouldn’t see the floor in playoffs anyways.

What’s next? Popavic doesn’t bring value because he can’t play?

People bring value to teams that don’t always make the court. Shannon wouldn’t know because nfl rosters are so lean almost everyone, with some exceptions, play. If you watch the playoffs, only 8 MAYBE 9 players will ever actually play in those series.

We don’t get to watch practice but I doubt Thanasis would let Giannis or anyone else slack off.

Thanasis is not holding us back at all.

  37. VicePope

oh no not the 15th roster spot! every single team in the league would do the same

  38. topkingdededemain

    That’s a good point.

Literally the definition of nepotism. I find it odd people are so ok with that.

Giannis is a top 3 player probably. Unless it’s fucking Lebron or MJ I’m not letting anyone’s talentless siblings on my team.

  39. clingbat

I mean having two huge hype men for your best player at the end of the bench isn’t the worst thing in the world as they’d never go that deep on the bench in the playoffs anyway, which is all that really matters. Bonus is they can check him in the rare occurrence he’s being a jackass about something in a way no one else in the org can, because they are literally family.

So kinda shit take when you think about it practically speaking.

  40. karl_hungas

One of my favorite oddities in basketball culture is dicussing the 15th man like he is a game changer. It happens on Reddit all the time, team subreddits and in sports media.

  41. boop1234567

They’re minimum contracts at the end of the bench, they’re not preventing any amazing players from being on the roster

  42. DJBliskOne

Bucks need to do it to keep Giannis happy. Giannis is worth more than 2 bench spots regardless of potential for those spots.
