Rant alert!
Big picture: We can’t shoot. Simple as that. We have great defenders, great drivers, great teamwork. But man we can not shoot. Ever since that first Brooklyn loss I knew this season should have tempered expectations. It’s just frustrating seeing team after team have these great 1 on 1 scorers who can space the floor and are not liabilities on defense. Meanwhile we only have the extremes of one or the other. Either great D with no offense (Suggs, JI, AB) or a good shooter who’ll get cooked on D (Houstan, Ingles, Cole). Just a bunch of in between guys. Need the FO to start prioritizing shooting over everything else. This Mickey Mouse happy team hustle will only get you so far if you can’t knock down an open 3.
This game: Game was winnable but I think we threw. Team needs to make the* decision about WCJ and Goga. WCJ looked.. not great still, and he got burned a lot on D. If we’re serious about this season we should commit to Goga. It’s unfortunate that WCJ got hurt but this is a results oriented business, and Goga has earned it based on his performance all year. Our status in the hierarchy in the East is firmly set. It’s Boston, Milwaukee, and Philly, and then everyone else. We’re still a playoff team and will be a pain in the ass for whoever we see in the first round. Gotta keep reminding ourselves that our 2 franchise pillars are 22 and 21 years old. Cole got absolutely cooked today. They were hunting him every time on defense. I’d be fine if he never took another technical foul FT.
Traveling back to back with key players out and WCJ getting Gogas minutes. Rough game definitely was important with how close the standings are.

Flat out unacceptable loss. Do we have a shooting coach because I truly don’t understand how an NBA team is this bad shooting the basketball? And then to give the guy you drafted to shoot 2 garbage time minutes is insane.
Don’t care how good our defense is, if we can’t shoot, and rebound, and turn the ball over constantly, we can’t win

Guys it was a back to back of course we shot bad. The real issue is Mosley just got flat out out coached tonight. He’s a good coach but Christ tonight was ugly. There also needs to be a real conversation about WCJ not being in game shape or still being hurt. he cannot continue to play this many minutes it just leads to wasted possessions on both ends of the court.

Philly actively hunted him all game. It’s why they had so many points in the paint.
The reality is we’re going to have to give up a really good player to get a guy who can not only shoot threes but create them for himself, which is what we really need. Adding one shooter won’t change our spacing much. You see what Houston is. Like yeah he’s a great shooter but if that’s all he can do on offense it’s still not going to create space. If that’s all you can do it won’t fundamentally change how we are defended
You need a guy who can hit the three when his defender sags off and drive to the basket when the defender reaches to either get a layup or kickout. That’s what makes space. It’s a shame Franz hasn’t been able to get the shot to fall because that’s what he would be with it.
That post game moment between the guys and Bamba made me smile at least. You can tell the bond they formed through the years was very solid.

Our margin of error is too small by how horrendous we are at shooting threes. Every game needs to be low turnover, high FT rate, good defense, good in the paint with a solid bench. Anything else and it gets iffy.
WCJ needs to sit until he’s fully healthy.
Moe is almost useless without the Ingles two-man game and Isaac covering his defense.
Paolo and Franz three point season continues to be a journey. Banchero is way better this year but not automatic at all and missed so many wide open shots. Franz decided to not have any arc on his shot this year for some reason.
Idc what anyone says, we need fultz. AB will fill the role eventually. Right now, if it isn’t markelle, we need to trade for our PG
We were just bad, shit happens on a b2b and with so many injuries. Our bench is gone, the line-ups are a mess. Really want to look inside Mosley’s head to understand what his plan is with WCJ/Goga. Why change a winning team? WCJ has been flat out terrible, not even a flash of something positive on defence or offence.. man, JI would show more in ~5 minutes in all those comeback games he had (sigh).

Offensively this team is broken has been for a while it’s way too reliant on one of paolo and franz. Having great nights. I’d love AB to come off the bench not because he isn’t worthy enough to start because he flows decently as a starter and you saw last night he’s got good potential but he is so hesitant to actually play his point guard position with paolo and franz which I think is getting in the way of further utilizing his talents. I also would like to see Jett get some run I understand the concerns of having multiple rookies starting at the same time but having a guy who comes in knows his role as a shooter and can put them up and add more spacing to a badly spaced roster should get the opportunity. Chuma is not a good enough guy to be in his way.
I love Wendell but he was terrible in every way tonight. If we want to win we need to ease him back in much more slowly, no way he should be starting with this much rust.
I wish Cole would play a little more like a shooter at times, he’s capable and we need it. Just run like a mf off ball and try to get to his spots.
Really needed Ingles tonight.
Some notes on the game:
– We talk a lot about the lack of shooting on the team but at the end of the day, Paolo and Franz just have to be much better with shooting the three. Paolo alone missed 4 or 5 open threes tonight. Also Paolo needs to do some serious work on protecting the ball on drives.
– Felt like Chuma gave the Magic some good minutes. Hope he finds some momentum somehow.
– Wendell has been very bad coming back from his injury. Starting him is fine, but playing Moe over Goga seems like a bad coaching move.
– Caleb should be a mainstay in the rotation. He’s the best and quickest shooter on the team, plays decent defense and fights on the glass.
– Cole was horrid today. He got targeted every possession in the second Q and pretty much allowed guys like Morris and Beverly to get some scoring momentum. Something concerning about Cole is that a good game for him means a bunch of points. Other than boards, he doesn’t really bring anything else. Also, his scoring is pretty iso-dependent, he’s not gonna get buckets off the catch or even as a PNR attacker. He’s not a volume three point shooter either. His role in the long run is definitely something to watch.
– Finally, disheartening loss for sure, but like many of the 12 losses this season, much of these come against veteran teams that know how to win. It’s part of the process and the Magic are totally fine big picture wise.
The turnovers are a killer every time we play a good team. They dare us to drive into congested paint or make cross court passes and we pay dearly. It can be fixed but I’m tired of waiting for it to get fixed. The shooting issues are obvious but that is not the only thing that stands between us being the 6th-10th best team in the East and say the 4th-5th.
That was a terrible loss. Plain and simple. Loss of depth on the second night of a back to back and building a brick house from 3 sealed our fate. Hopefully we get some guys back on Friday. I’m gonna say this til my tongue turns blue. Throw everything at the Blazers for package of Anfernee Simons and Brogdon.
Weltman is taking notice. Changes coming at the deadline.
Like I said in the other thread…this coaching regime isn’t getting the most out of these players. Not blaming Mose specifically and the players definitely let everyone down tonight but clearly whatever is going on in practice is not translating to games.
I don’t even think it’s the injuries. Maybe too much youth in the building and a young coach that doesn’t have the experience to channel their energy.
F*ck Sixers, their commentators, their fans, and anything related to them. Stupid btchass commentators especially the woman, btchass can’t stop rubbing it on Magic. Fcking talking about a subtle push, there was no push fcking trash commentator. Fck that dmbass good for nothing guy as well.
The point where it changed was during the 83-86. After several bullsht calls from the dumb*ss referees and dumb*ss sixers players making their shots despite low probability, our boys got demoralized. Can’t do nothing about that. People can blame whoever they want, none of our team was making shots after that point. At least Jett made that last shot, and the btchass commentator made sure to make fun of that too. What a trash game, and I believe, the first time in the new homecourt too.
We are probably about a .500 team from here on out. I like our core but they can’t shoot for shit and they get frustrated way too easily. Hopefully they grow out of it and this team takes the next step. Carter is also currently completely useless.
WCJ is a complete doofus! Why he’s playing a head of Goga is Mosley’s error. He’s not ready.. stick with Goga, Mo & then give WCJ 10 minutes a game.. but WCJ doesn’t play defense, doesn’t get rebounds & hucks 3’s.

They put themselves in the position to shoot far more efficiently than the 76er which they failed to do.
Philly had 17 (!) more attempts than the Magic because of the latter lack of care with the basketball and losing the battle of the boards. The former can be blamed on missing three guards, but the latter should not happen. They just outhustles us, which is pretty rare to happen.
Kinda terrible to be losing to the Heat and Sixers without Jimmy and Embiid. Really disappointed in this group for not taking advantage of these games. And Houstan and Suggs are the only mfs who should be pulling 5+ 3s with Gary and Jingles out. Franz should legitimately stop shooting at this point. Paolo has been solid for the most part this season but 8 is way too many.
Thoughts on Wendell?
Magic need to ease WCJ back into the starting lineup. It’s not like he’s head and shoulders above Goga that he’s warranted the starting spot. He needs to earn it back. I think might be time to give up on injury prone players like Fultz and WCJ.
Just make a trade! Knowing Weltman he’ll bring back shelvin Mack or equivalent and call it a trade dead line. He doesn’t do shit !!!!
We need to sign Hield in free agency and make some moves either at the deadline or in the off-season for atleast 1 more shooter on a multi-year contract.
It’s pretty obvious that the only person to blame is that guy who made the confident post about Embid not playing tonight.
Anyone have the Athletic? They had a (kinda odd) article today ranking each team’s shooting performance(outside the paint) and predictably, their formula confirmed that the Magic are 30th out of 30 teams at actually shooting the basketball. This inculded free throws, midrange, and 3’s.
Good Teams will pack the paint and we’re in trouble if our shot from 3 isn’t falling.
Shocking. We still need shooting. And I don’t wanna jump the gun on Wendell, but atp he at least needs to earn his minutes/ starting minutes back. He isn’t entitled to them and goga and mo were a very good 1-2 punch while he was out.
However, If I am gonna jump the gun, I wouldn’t be opposed to letting him build his value back up with some better showings before the deadline and then sending him off in a package deal for a certified playmaker and shooter.
I’m sure he isn’t a very popular player in this sub and probably also not the most likely guy to land seeing as it’d be an intradivisional move, but I’d love for the hawks to implode and target Trae.
Nick nurse planned really well for us. Took away our drives and our back door cuts and dared us to shoot the ball. If we can’t make our threes we’re gonna lose alot of these closer games. Also, I know it’s been a hot topic but Wendell has definitely look terrible in his return, hopefully we can see him return to his former play (which I believe he can.). If we have three good centers, I think it wouldn’t be unreasonable to expect a trade of one these centers and hopefully it’ll be for more shooting.
Having said that, I think the Weltham slander is pretty ludicrous lol. Since their tenure they’ve turned a squad riddled with hennigan’s mistakes into a relatively strong young core. Out of all their draft picks mo bamba has been the only one that feels terrible. A team with its core players in their second and third years playing and competing at our level is a success.
