Projected $54 million in offseason cap space

According to Spotrac after the deadline moves we are projected to have 54 million in cap space heading into the offseason. Leaving room for a Lauri Markkanen renegotiation and Kris Dunn extension

Most of the top or desired free agents seem penciled in to remain with their current team, so I’d guess we do something similar to last years John Collins trade, hopefully we get a better fit this time though

Throw a max at Maxey and hope the 76ers, who already have a huge cap sheet, don’t match.

Yeah this is important to contextualize yesterday’s moves to the cap space the Jazz have. A couple thoughts:
    – Jazz seem very motivated to see what they have with Hendricks, as they should be. I think it’ll be important to see how impactful he is to finish this season. Jazz won’t want to make a move in this upcoming FA that would effectively block his minutes again
    – One thing I don’t really know is if the Jazz have a chance to “redo” Lauri’s contract as soon as next season. Obviously he is on a killer deal at $18 million and it’s actually only partially guaranteed ($6million) but I wonder if the Jazz could actually just give him the pay bump now and by doing so could maybe limit the future cap hit of that contract?
    – I also think Jazz may end up being a dumping ground for contracts as teams try to gain cap space. I think the difference between this upcoming FA and Collins is Jazz will probably only take on deals that will expire at the end of the season. This may not be a bad thing as 1 Jazz will get some sort of asset for taking on contracts and 2 expiring contracts can be great for salary matching, especially for a team with a hoard of assets like the Jazz
