I think it’s just the style they are and will use for retired jerseys. It matches the 6th man one already there. I don’t believe it was meant to replicate his jersey specifically.
Every player that gets retired will have worn some version of the pinstripes so it’s just the style they are going with.

This is something that I think fans are really overstating and isn’t warranted complaining about. Check out other teams banners, they do the same thing, all fonts/jerseys the same. Hell, check Bostons, theirs are so bland.
