I would say tribalism is hurting Luka rather than racism. It's very similar, but people are voting within their tribe. Luka is better. The root cause is he's not in their tribe. Skin color is a factor. Perhaps the biggest factor.
Luka not being athletic and the way that MJ and LeBron was hurt him in the way a lot of people view him. It also seems that those people cant seem to change that view. I say this because Wemby got the hype luka should have gotten. He got it because of his size and athleticism. When luka was getting drafted every one mentioned how slow he was and how European players don't tend to work out. Some even mocked his accomplishments that he earned in the second biggest league in the world by saying that its just the euro league. But they never did that with wemby. It did not matter that he played in the 7th biggest league in the world, and it did not matter that he played against lesser competition because of it. It also did not matter that he lacked accolades, because he was very athletic.
Look, we all know wemby is the real deal. I just thought it was funny that the things they criticized luka for were never an issue when it came to wemby. I'm also sure that if luka could also jump out his shoes from half court then he would have gone #1. And if he did maybe people would have given him his flowers.

American NBA players and sports commentators are biased toward the physically talented young players. They think that to the MVP you need to have highlight dunks and a high percentage of three-point shoots. Basketball also requires skills in rebounding, dribbling, setting picks, passing, and most importantly being able to breakdown defenses. The European players are just more talented in all the skills that basketball requires. Jokic has been the MVP because of the all-round skills he has and also because the Nuggets have worn a championship. Luka will most likely not win the MVP until Dallas wins a championship and they force the biased voters to recognize his greatness.
