Could Kyle Filipowski be the Nuggets’ Jokic off the bench? | DNVR Nuggets Podcast

Lounge presented by your Front Range Toyota stores Toyota the official vehicle of dmvr having myself a very Toyota day and that it’s great and reliable you’re having a high quality day with a high trade in value that’s exactly what unbelievable man I could trade this day for a Friday that’s how good it is right now unbelievable top Tuesday man we got a great show for you lined up we are going to be talking about well I’ve been wanting to talk about this for month Kyle filipowski talking about him Bening yic Ben we’re talking about a bench version of yic the Nuggets could draft and Kyle filipowski we’re also going to talk about a new shoe deal Kyrie’s dad just got one you’ve been clamoring to talk about that for a month that’s not it we’re also going to talk about the TV rights deal TNT going away my beloved TNT what does that mean to help us a media expert himself wow Kyle dver Colin dver col Jesus sorry W KY K you know we I’m in vote seat so I have to say this Fell’s what a treat what a treat what a treat to be here I watch all basically all the postgame shows throughout the season uh big nuggets guy uh when I get off work from my job as a local TV guy in El Paso Texas go home I watch like the fast recap of the Nuggets games on uh the NBA app and go watch you guys so it’s cool to be here I love the setup the the first time in the bar first time in the studio yeah people who don’t understand don’t know how like difficult it is to set all of this up all the technical stuff so I really I just wanted to say tell you guys I really appreciate all have you here Kyle hell yeah shut the [ __ ] up name tag I a name tag Kyle bie yeah thanks Kyle enjoy a Brandon vote seat to be fair though none of us know except for kale how any of this works either so wouldd be screw to over here we’ve got dine that’s right guys um the off season is on it’s time to uh we’re doing draft prospects oh my God we didn’t even do this last year we didn’t have time we were staying on Parade dude now we’re decidedly off parade dude the parade is over and now we’re looking at draft prospect dude draft prospecting is totally parad less it’s the most parad it’s about as far off the parade as you can go true way off the route dude unbelievable rounding out the show though as always Harrison went breaking news right into the show unexpected a late turn but uh the Lakers are hiring JJ reic are you serious that’s what it says yeah no way man I swear to God I did not think that was happening I thought that was all I honestly thought maybe it was a leverage play like to get a you know to get a better podcast deal yeah ESPN deal whatever have you but so wow JJ reic we’re going to have to talk about that later this week I don’t want to talk about it okay okay but you can give a quick one I mean wait is so is JJ rect going to do a podcast with his top player brother I’m telling you it’s possible what is happening it’s possible like it was absurd when Draymond Green would do a podcast moments after losing a game yeah we’ll do this we will we will we will talk about this probably on Thursday or Friday we’re not we got shows lined up for today tomorrow um Colin I hate myself um I actually lied to you the whole time it is it really was the Kyle Philip Pas bar all right so you are in El Paso but you hijacked your own show to talk about the Nuggets when they won the title yes how did that go over so if you don’t know he’s in El Paso he’s doing sports uh coverage when the Nuggets win the title it’s like you know what sorry El Paso not today we’re talking nuggets baby I salute that’s so great so there I had this running joke for years and years that I was one of seven nuggets fans so that’s really how it felt for for years and years but I was so loud about it that I was a nuggets fan that anywhere I was in the world you know doing local TV or whatever everybody just kind of knew okay that’s the Nuggets so I was kind of the only nuggets fan that anybody in Texas ever knew so I think a lot of people were really behind it so like when I would be tweeting about the playoffs last year when they clinched the spot in the finals was when I really kind of went full in on the okay like I really never thought this would happen I gave a little Soliloquy on on air yeah and it wasn’t little it was a long and passion speech yeah I mean I just genuinely never thought it would happen yeah I think a lot I a lot of people felt that way um so really I think it was from a lot of people I mean it was a they clinched on on Monday so it really there really was I don’t remember do you it could have been any day I honestly do not remember that it was mever there was just not much going on in the world of sports that day in El Paso or really anything other than the NBA so it it just kind of was perfect kind of the perfect moment to do it more or less people were just happy for me I think is what it was what does go on in a lot actually there’s over a million people that live there it’s it’s just kind of in the middle of the desert it’s it’s like Dune you know I mean there’s just like d yeah lot a lot of spice Refinery uh I’ve been to El Paso you’ve been to El Paso we’ve been to El Paso there’s more going on Than People realize is what I would say yeah I didn’t know that there was spice Refinery going on but I I did enjoy my time there CH I know um man that’s incredible can you imagine though for a second if like after let’s say this finals ends Celtics win and one of the local sports Acres did like five minutes on the Celtics winning i’ be like so Furious especially because there’s like no nuggets connections to El Paso or evenin is an assistant coach at UT hell yeah don’t take you go come with your facts ready I was like DeAndre Jordan I think he’s from Houston yeah yeah other than that though that’s the closest you like who who is the official pro team of the NBA yeah do they do they go to the San Antonio it’s a weird mix of like Lakers and San Antonio mean it’s like we’re halfway between San Antonio when it’s an unincorporated NBA territory allow a little also like at this very moment the nuggets are also a contender so whoever wins it’s like yeah but the nuggets should have it there are years though when it’s like the Nuggets were the 30th best team in the league and somebody wins it you’re like we’re so far away so I don’t know um what I want to talk about though in this first segment here is very near and dear to my heart TNT is going away and if you watch our show and consume our show I don’t think there is any show in the history of Television that has served as a larger inspiration for me personally and how I approach media but also if you just look at the show four guys sitting on you sitting around talking uh you know talking Hoops clearly inspired by Inside the NBA which I think is incredible and I’ll go as as far as to say I think that who broadcasts no matter what sport it is the broadcast rights play a huge part in how popular that sport is TNT for 20 plus years has been a phenomenal in my opinion phenomenal broadcast partner of the NBA and them going away it’s not guaranteed to be a bad thing but I think it’s more like like like I am worried that ESPN is gaining more power in how the NBA story is told and T is going away with the hopes that NBC and Amazon will will be new blood and and give A New Perspective but just off the top TNT going away Eric I hate it and I actually am very sad about it well the thing that they have going for them is that they’ve been on air long enough that they have shed any feeling of professional responsibility yeah like they just say whatever they want it’s like like Charles Barkley is very comfortable insulting the the women of San Antonio probably the people I prob would never a chance but he would absolutely no issue there but they talk about it in way he actually really goes after Texas I mean he’s just but it like they that’s the problem is when you start something new and that’s even with like the the secondary TNT staff with my main man um Adam leco they have this thing where they just they’re they’re trying to establish credibility and any new crew would do the same thing so you’d have to go through this like long period of them breaking in this new pair of shoes to where they get to the point where it’s like Shaq and uh Charles Barkley can physically like attempt to fight one another on air and it’s like cool you’re like oh you see that’s hilarious so that’s the bummer part is that you lose that you have to like and you have to start over with uh learning some and they you know they’re obviously going to try to copy what TNT had but you can’t do it without those years of rest people don’t actually try to copy it though if you noticed like ESPN is not trying to copy it their show is very different deliberately and I mean obviously terribly should try to copy it but when are you as bothered by the I mean part of this I wonder if it’s age like I’ve been watching TNTs Inside the NBA for 25 years right no it’s a huge loss like absolutely and it’s more than just inside the NBA the show I think because a game feels different to me when it’s on TNT versus ESPN so different just the presentation the announcers how it’s treated there’s just levels to it and ESPN just kind of treats it like any other show Almost and TNT treats it as this huge event it just it feels a little more special to me at for some reason when a game is on TNT yeah yeah and ESPN it it feels like it’s down wor the worst this part of this is the polarity right if you had like what I would call an average broadcast in TNT you’d be like oh bummer small downgrade but to me ESPN is a horrible broadcast I mean I’m not trying to be a full hater but they have actually just moved to everything I hate about their presentation of it yeah I I was going to say I mean similar to what you said watching it for 25 years my first memory when I was 9 years old of like getting into basketball is remember they they used to have it not it was like TNT on Thursdays but Tuesday nights it was on TBS or something like that like my first memory of watching basketball is watching the Lakers ring night after they won the 2000 Championship cic yeah it was tough but it was on the presentation yeah that’s my first memory is it was Ernie um I think it was just Ernie Kenny and Charles at that point probably and I just I I can’t think of another show sports or I mean news maybe a late maybe a late night host like David Letterman like where if they leave people are genuinely this upset about it right right you you don’t see it on any show on ESPN maybe Sports Center if it ever went away but it’s I mean that’s just a different kind of kind of talk show like I just don’t I can’t think of a show on like CNN NBC what whatever it is that would have this kind of staying power and this kind of where people would have so many vitalic emotions about it going away yeah and it’s the talent obviously Charles Barkley is incredible and there’s nobody like him and there’s probably not going to be another guy like him Ernie and then you know Kenny and then Shaq to me is kind of lesser than them but he’s a part of the show too there’s them but there’s also just how the show is done with the producers behind the scenes how much time they they give them how there’s like no commercials dude it almost feels like this show in that it’s not some shows you can tell there’s a clock and it’s like you got to get to this their show just kind of they’re like all right we’re we’re done now my favorite point is when they start showing like uh highlights of the game they just talked about and they never mention they’re just just riing they’re just playing they’re like man Chuck you’re an idiot like for two minutes that dirty water doesn’t come up one time the highlights that they’re talking about so going to miss them they brought fun I think Ernie Johnson was the I mean obviously Chuck is the the the yic of the crew but but EJ to me is as good of a host of anything and honestly that’s Mr TNT M it is Mr TNT and honestly again when I talk about in the job we’re in we’re like athletes that aspire to other athletes this is how I am with media member there are guys and Van Pelt is one of them and then obviously EJ’s another one that I’m always like man that was such a good job of Coring this or doing that and there’s no one like him so you lose that part of it that’s what made TNT special they weren’t perfect and there are a lot of I kind of like the idea of there being different broadcasts cuz I think you could have one broadcast that’s maybe a little more smart or a little more formal and one is a little more casual and that’s what I ultimately hope happens what I don’t like though is that ESPN is front and Setter because ESPN has also made a decision on how they present all of their Sports and that is through debate and it has been a 20year move towards this ESPN can’t change at this point I don’t believe it I honestly don’t think it can it it can maybe change over the course of a decade slowly but ESPN being the big dog and all of this now to me is catastrophic and there’s a lot of weight now on NBC and Amazon to match that Amazon completely unproven NBC’s been out the game for a while but I’m at least hopeful they have had good broadcasts in the past with football NBC Sunday night is great uh most watch show on TV what’s that it’s the most watch show on and it’s a good broadcast it feels big right Sunday football feels big so I hope that NBC can get this right but Amazon total Wild Card man do you think one of them tries to recreate an inside the NBA of with a host their version of Barkley Kenny and Shaq is there another Barkley though don’t get no because I think if another show tries to do that it would probably suck like I think most likely that show would not be good but I think another Network could talk themselves into trying to do it Chuck is like Prince or something you know like where it’s like you can’t imitate that the premier Le the Premier Soccer has a show that’s modeled after Inside the NBA pretty good I don’t know I don’t watch it but they do have one I just Charles Barkley’s one of one he totally is you’re not totally going to ever have somebody as good as that so I this these things are so important to me though because if you ask me about the health of the league and not I don’t even mean health is in ratings cuz like rating ratings you want ratings to be connected to goodness but that’s not always the case you can get great ratings or something that I want the NBA to feel important and special and meaningful and the stories to be well told and again I’m in media so I probably care more about this than everybody because I think about and obsess about these things on layers that that most people don’t think about but I think you you are impacted whether you think about it or not you are impacted by that we are all impacted by the ESPN ification I I guess we should call it the uh PTI of cuz that was really one of the first shows and then everything has spiraled from it we’re all impacted by that and I just hope in 10 years we’re talking about how much MBC and Amazon elevated the NBA and told the story in a way that’s that’s awesome dude a lot of the Story of All City is the anti ESPN yeah we might not exist without how much they suck it’s honestly true I mean like I have a very like uh I don’t know like antithetical relationship to ESP like I I hate how they treat Sports I hate the way that they talked about I hate that they’ve turned it into T A tabloid Affair I hate that they focus on the things that aren’t important and I hate so much of what they do specifically with basketball I don’t know why it is basketball the one that they just really can’t wrap their heads around they really just cannot talk about the game in an interesting way they can’t talk about like the teams that are good and just like leave it at that this they’re able to do this like very easily with football for some reason basketball it’s just everyone’s taking the lead with you know know it’s the talk about Kyrie but not because he’s a great point guard but because of the Flat Earth or this that or the other um so I hate this I mean I absolutely hate this we’ll see um the one nice thing the TNT like inside the NBA has going for it is that like the two big bookends uh which is uh Chuck and Shaq like have [ __ ] you money they don’t they don’t care right they don’t they’re like whatever like yeah oh you going a fire me right totally but like everybody’s always chasing the bag though but he cuz but he doesn’t it doesn’t matter though you know what I mean like um you know like Kendrick Perkins you can tell like is he’ll say some wild stuff but he like try to make him the Barkley I know they are I know that that’s this what I’m this is what I’m saying you guys that’s what’s going to happen the B vers the B version of Charles Barkley actually sucks so that’s the thing it’s only Chuck can be that cuz he’s above the threshold three folky sounding sayings and also don’t you remember when some put that together that said he’s the funniest person to ever live he might be he’s actually that funny and that consistently great and doesn’t he have written into his contract at TNT that if like the show this was really smart by him and whoever did it for him but like he has written into his contract that if tnt is inside the NBA everyone away he’s immediately a free agent and can go wherever he wants to go yeah I don’t know if Kenny and sha do I don’t think Ernie Johnson does so he would be locked into TNT but like Barkley could potentially whatever whatever happens at NBC or Amazon like they could just potentially swoop in and grab him Kenny’s replaceable to me Shaq is very replaceable in fact Shaq’s Shaq’s not bad sometimes he plays the hype man well you know he’ll hype too prideful he is way too prideful but he has evolved into the guy that well where are they going Chuck like like he’ll set Chuck he’ll throw the lob like and then laugh I always I always compliment you I always appreciate how easy you are to make laugh because it does like it it helps everything and Shaq is that way too like he laughs at all of Chuck’s jokes and it just makes you laugh and there’s so he has some positives but he’s replaceable come on I’ll go on that show and laugh at Chuck’s jokes chck all right let’s take a break on the other side guys you saw the the title bench yic should the Nuggets bench yic is that what we in favor of a rookie what that’s what you’re saying saying it oh wait Nuggets champion but check this out very unique one describe it real quick it’s got It’s got the lar and then it does have X let’s go that’s awesome to so obviously that’s like an homage to like the Greater nuget Community when I explain it to people and I’m like it just means cheers in Seria and they’re like that’s a really stupid tattoo no it’s not it’s incredible incredible I’m happy about it they almost when they did it they almost forgot like little accent over the Z so they did that um yeah I’m very happy with it dude Ser take note man if you’re not following col or uh Christian this is your guy I’ll never live this down than you nor should you uh anyway that tattoo is awesome Kyle filipowski AKA flip Kyle filipowski I know I tried to do some research I don’t know where the flip came from it’s just like you don’t Phillip it’s a joke oh sorry uh all right tell us what do you know about this guy well Kyle flip filipowski he’s a center out of Duke a sophomore 20 years old played two years in college draft range in the 20s to a late first round uh he was a big time Prospect heading into college consensus five-star guy one of the top players in the 2022 class his measurables 611 without so you can call him a seven-footer I think 610 and 1 12 wingspan negative wingspan 610 wingspan negative wings that’s my wingspan I have that wingspan that’s insane 200 lb uh consensus second team allamerican last year at Duke First Team all ACC 610 Wings SP I’m going to do the thing again yeah you’re going to be hung up on this for a while I’m going to do the thing I’m comping him to Mo Vagner I like this you like that comp do like it why why’ you pick Mo voger I don’t know remind you I mean we all I was going to actually comp him to hartenstein but cross race comps are do can’t really can’t go cross race there he actually looks exactly likein he does except for he doesn’t have that hump in his back he’s an offensive minded big man average or 16 and a half points per game at Duke last season 50% from the floor only 35% from three and 67% from the line looks like he’s got a pretty good shot though 8.3 rebounds 2.8 assists a steal a block and a half was Duke’s best player and um you know his strengths multi-skilled big man can pass dribble Shoot Smart Player got good footwork good pick and pop ability pretty good Mobility as well um but I don’t know if he’s like a switchable versatile Defender uh not a great rebounder either all right first note I have and throw it to you uh Colin his name is Kyle Jared filipowski KJ is a basketball game Kyle is so tough KJ filipowski feel flip K yeah KJ filipowski to me way more of a way less of a bust than Kyle do you are you a college guy and and do you have a scout on this guy so because of my job I do have I probably watch more college basketball than the average NBA fan I would say y a lot of UTEP in New Mexico state which is sometimes interesting but uh I was telling you before we started the show in March I went and work the sweet 16 and Elite eight in Dallas which is where um Duke was sent and my job that week was to literally walk the Duke and NC State players to and from their press conferences so I got to talk to Philip hsky a little bit I mean first of all like carries himself really well he is every boot of seven feet tall like he that that’s not a lie so um Wing call fellow tall so he knows that when you’re a fellow tall you just size up other tall how how tall is Jamal Murray I never stood next to Jamal Murray but like when you were taking them to the press conference are you holding hands I’m on your side now 6’4 I’m knocking him down an inch here after this playoff yeah so he’s I don’t I was impressed with him in the sweet 16 vers Marquette he hit a couple he hit a really big three I’m sorry vers Houston uh it was vers Houston that he played really well um hit a big three in like the second half to kind of push him over the top but it was um I think Harrison said defensively was where you were wor a little worried about him my biggest memory of him from that weekend is in the Elite 8 he was destroyed by DJ Burns for North Carolina State the what he’s what is he like 68 69 like 280 lbs before the OIC yeah pre weight loss I can’t believe he could why didn’t he do OIC before the play he could have been so much better I don’t I think he might be worse maybe that was game he he struggled with Burns he was giving up 40 lbs probably um but Burns I mean that’s probably the the game of Burn’s life he had 29 Points 13 19 so it’s kind of like what do you do I don’t want to grade him too harshly because maybe this guy just had the greatest game of his life against him yeah but I don’t think you can totally Factor it out either so I would I I don’t know if he can the playmaking that uh that you see obvious I mean yic is is yic but the playmaking that you see from him I don’t know if filipowski would be able to do that right away but you know maybe we’ll see I think the three-point shooting is is where he would factor in is Maybe like a zek Nai Sean looks good I mean if you got a chance to look at him a little bit he I watch him a little bit no I I actually you know that I this is the part of the Year where I become most like an apex predator I I simply like I don’t listen to the to what you guys are saying I don’t know anything I simply watch how the athlete moves on the court and how they move as compared to other people on the court and I have to say I like this guy he really does remind me of Isaiah hartstein like in in in a positive way you didn’t like hartstein well it looks like could catch the ball and not foul so those are two things I think would how’s his posture his posture looks to be an upgrade on um hard I’m telling you is one slouch and sideburns away from everybody loving him that’s what everybody really hated and if he would have caught one pass that would have been great no but I I you know like truthfully like this guy moves really well and he he looks like pretty athletic and pretty uh mobile so he’s sked I am I am intrigued he’s really skilled you know he can pass shoot dribble he’s got really good foot work around the rim some good post moves good touch it looks like like offensively he checks a lot of boxes for a big man and I think and this is one of the things that you poke around and just ask people what they think Jack of all trades master of none and that how do you look at that is that a strength or a weakness and if you’re going for backup center it’s probably a strength that you can do a bunch of things because you’re not molding your team around your backup center he’s got to fit into what you’re doing so the more he could do the better but I think the reason and again the funny headline here can he be the backup yic and that’s the thing like we saw Mason plumbley isah hartstein I think was the idea there but Mason plumbley was good in Denver in part because he could do that do you feel personally that you want to see the nuggets have a backup yic a yic type guy that they can go to or do you think that’s too hard man you’re not going to find that you shouldn’t even try yeah I mean I just think he’s one of the 10 greatest players of all time so to find a replic cut of him is going to be very difficult however if you can find somebody who does do a lot of the things that he does you don’t have to completely change your offense when the bench comes in kind of like they had to do this year right so I think I mean it’s it’s it certainly would help I think you’ve said it a lot like you want in the playoffs you want people who solve problems so if he can as a master of a master of none but like if he can be a guy who can do a lot of different things in the playoffs perhaps then he can fill that role and again we’re talking about when it comes down to a 10minute a game so if you can do if you can if you can do what they need you to do for 10 minutes then sure I actually don’t think the backup center rooll matters at all for the playoffs I I think that I think backup center is a thing that unless you just happen to stumble upon a star and you’re like well it’s behooves us to play this guy but other than that it’s a regular season thing you just need yic to not have to play that much and you need and if you do have the continuity of a guy that plays like him then that helps because like just leave him out there for an extra 2 minutes let yo play you’re still run the same off the one counter to that that I would say is that in the specific case of the Denver Nuggets they now are in a place where they have to react to those who have who reacted to them and they actually do need to think about weak side defense Rim protection things like the specifically with the Minnesota Timberwolves being able to bracket in yage like they actually have to have a counter to that should they find themselves specifically matched up against the Timberwolves again because like I don’t know that they even if Jamal Murray I mean Jamal Murray obviously can like increas his play quite a bit but they were put in a bad position because they didn’t really have a counter to what Minnesota was doing so now it’s like the counter to the counter begins but at the same time Denver was so close I just I look at Denver and I go they did a D minus job in that they would have lost to the goddamn Spurs they would have been the other side of the Bragg we would have been stay on Parade I actually think that it’s even less that they were up 3-2 and they were up 20 in the second half 20 against the Spurs Part of Me Part of Me really does go I cuz I agree with you that the wolves are a really tough problem but I also look at it and go Denver was D minus and should have won I know yeah I don’t think the Nuggets need to really react to the Timberwolves roster or their regular season fatigue that’s I honest that’s my opinion to me it’s like it doesn’t mean like oh we got to replace kcp with a seven-footer but it’s like you should have another guy in the bench you feel comfortable going to yeah yeah in a perfect world I want a backup center that’s a rim protector I want a shop Locker an athletic LOB threat who can be a deterrent at The Rim uh we don’t live in a perfect world though those guys are tough to find it’s not like the nuggets are going to find one this summer on a minimum contract um but I do agree that I think they need to bring in a a competent Center like we’ve talked about this I want Dario sarich on a minimum contract to just play 15 plus minutes a game in the regular season like that’s what I want because they can’t ride joic again as hard as they have these last couple years um Philip palsky can probably play 10 minutes a game here’s the thing though and we when you and I were talking about this Center is the scariest position to draft High bus potential such high bus potential and I just think as a like as a rule you have a top five pick and there’s a Dwight Howard or some guy that seem Mari some guy that seems like a close to a can’t miss prosect you go for that but to use a first round pick on a guy you’re like I’m not sure if he can play or not I just hate that for Center specifically that’s especially backup center so part of me wonders about this is like just tall on tall crime right now so I’m impressed with tall people man you know how I am does it worry you at all that like cuz I’ve seen him I think as high as 15 on some draft boards and I’ve seen him in the second round is that a worry at all that there’s so much range where I it might just be this draft man I think this draft is going to be crazy like I think there’s going to be somebody taking the top 10 and we see him and we’re like who is this guy oh yeah not because we don’t know who’s in the draft but because not because of that reason also but because this team might have taken a guy who’s projected to go 28 like eighth overall I just feel like there’s so much volatility in this draft specifically that people are going to reach and guys are going to fall and it’s going to be a weird night but just as a principle I backup center to me is a second draft kind of guy it’s a I just using a draft asset when there’s that there’s already so much volatility to a pick in the 20s late 20s and then you add the center Factor on there at so scary so what would you would you prefer that they trade that pick to to acquire a proven asset so we talked about this on the show yesterday at length in that I just think that there is a critical mass of young players any Contender can have and that number is I’m probably higher than most on that it’s probably like four yeah but Denver’s already passed that mean have Hunter Tyson Jaylen picket uh you know jul St Julian St you’re going to draft another guy you’re probably still can put like a peatt in that a little bit you have Zeke you know who I think they’re going to trade it’s just Denver has a lot of guy eventually you’re going to get to a spot where you’re like okay so we have like 11 guys that we know what they are and then we have four five six guys that we don’t know what they are and we hope they work out that’s just tough to me and that’s why I look at this and say I that depends on what their long-term plan is are they going to use a strawther and a Tyson and a picket to try to get somebody else or are they going to bring those guys back and try to add another guy to the mix but yeah to me well to me it’s like okay if they’re going to draft they have enough like General players now that they should draft for need which typically you don’t want to do you just want to take the best possible player but they actually have a clear need in two positions in my my opinion the the one and the five on the for uh backup although we don’t know what pick it is but no but it you can’t count pick it exactly they have a need yeah right but so to me it’s like they should either draft for need run and just you know go forth with the the long-term Vision or they should trade they should trade some of the players and they should get a um I don’t know if filipowski is the pick how do you feel on the draft night that comes through they never not get select uhj filipowski what if you get what if you get to lead him off uh I think I would be pretty lukewarm about it I I know you guys did Don Holmes yesterday I am I like him I like I just like his skill set a lot better for like too personally um but you know maybe maybe his stock Rises through over the next month or so and it becomes you know where you can’t take him but workout guy he goes toout Nails didn’t you say he was like stopping workouts or something don don he has a promise and a lot of mocks are putting at Denver so who knows well I would I would I would like that I would probably be a little bit lukewarm on Philip hsky but I was lukewarm on pyton Watson and two years later I mean you love I’m yeah he’s he’s been a pretty turned into a pretty important part of the team so are you excited to start making shirts for flip if he get D the draft or are you a little worried dude I’ll make Flip Flip Flip Adelphia shirts tomorrow oh he’s from New York I don’t care dude don’t you ever see it’s always St in Philadelphia flip cup I’ll make make a flip cup FP cup shirts no problem there no I’m excited about no the other thing is like the nuggets are drafting so late that their first round pick is it’s like weird it’s a first round pick I know that’s the other thing about grading the 28th pick you’re like I don’t know dude it’s wild it really is wild when you get this like low in the draft where you’re just like I don’t know like this could break 4,000 different directions uh and it always does every year and then on we’re always live on camera on the internet when some pick comes in some person we’re not at all ready for and then we have all have negative reactions and then stupid later or smart uh yeah I think I’m out on filipowski not not a huge fan I would be lukewarm as how I would put it again there are players that I was lukewarm on and then you warm up to over time and he might be in that boat but I would say it’s really tough to develop a backup center on the Nuggets it’s really tough yeah you fight like him though take him under his wing yeah he could hate him and there’s no position on the team that’s gonna be graded harder by by everybody that true it’s an impossible position to be like Mason plumbley was honestly like pretty good and every I feel like lik it for sure y he was unpopular for a while there cuz he wasn’t yic yeah what if we got nkit back let’s go to break guys on the other side on the other side what does Jamal Murray need to do for you to feel good about giving him a Max extension next year that’s when he’ll be eligible for it that’s kind of a thought that’d be the easiest question on Earth be we’ll might talk about Jamal Murray every episode he’s been the running mate now for the entirety of the oera Contra has one more year left on his deal how confident would you be in offering him a Max contract extension as of right now is there anything that could happen I mean obviously you’re going to you probably end up making him the offer this summer but I’m is there something that you would that would make you nervous if he was your max guy next year and it happened so hold on you’re saying they they would offer it to him this Summer before next year this I think it’s the earliest they can offer him the max is this summer they can offer him the max so like if they did that oh man could be like 50 million a year I believe that would make me uncomfortable I he’s got to still prove it man he’s still got I mean he has the resume is impressive yet incomplete like his highs have been higher than anything I’ve ever really seen in a skill player that’s not yic but there’s been a lot of lows and there’s been a lot of like just sort of like in between U Middle Ground uh my faith is shaken after this most recent run where we got you know sort of like tepid Jamal Murray all year all expecting that we were just going to get playoff Murray and you know the the band would play on and that’s how it goes and we didn’t get it so now you’re starting to be like okay uh wow all right uh is like who who is this guy exactly I mean he’s OB I do think he’s a max player is he a super max player not super max just max though I’m just saying if you commit to that he’s going to be 28 next year oh boy he’s going to be 28 it’s a tough position I saw a stat oh I guess we’ll talk about it a little bit tomorrow um you need a running mate at some point I mean I like I said I think even yoke is starting to get to the point where he’s like yeah I don’t have an All-Star yep would kind of be nice to have one I mean this conversation’s a little crazy to me I feel like right now you Max him absolutely he’s a maxed player you just won a championship with him last year yep he came up short in the playoffs this season yeah he did he’s got to prove himself again next year in the playoffs he’s got to prove that he is still Jamal Murray and I think there’s a chance he still is I still think yeah I do there’s definitely a chance there’s no question I still think the biggest reason why he wasn’t Jamal Murray in the playoffs is the injury and the wear and Terr I think that’s reason number one but is he injury-prone yes yes so I mean that does that have to be factored in of course it’s factored in of course but I mean right now he’s a max player like I think it’s kind of crazy to think about just like not giving him that and trying to get him for like less than that the only thing it’s I I don’t I completely because you can’t get him for less but I completely agree with that notion but it it is like this is the first season I would I have paws and I there there’s a it’s not just an immediate automatic for me do you think it’s as easy as if he comes up big in the playoffs or not or do you feel like there’s something too like this 20 point per game 21 Point per game version of Murray should they expect more from him in the regular season I mean I think it’s certainly fair to ask ask for that especially if you’re if you’re going to be giving a guy the max deal it’s $50 million a year so much I think it’s certainly fair to be like hey dude can you can you make a third Team all all NBA can you make an All-Star team in the regular season all that said can you can you make us not terrible when Yol takes three minutes of a rest in the second quarter right all that said he has been obviously he’s the second most important player on a team that’s won the first championship in team history he is going to be beloved because of that Mike Malone obviously has said for years he’s what was the quote he’s hours hours or something so I think at this point the franchise is bought in on him you have to I think you have to be I’m I’m I understand the arguments for it but I’m kind of in line with Harrison on it like you kind you have to do it and also if you choose not to do it who are you getting like that that part of it I almost it’s hard to do these thought experiments because that’s the right answer you have no choice of course you have to do it but it’s the real question is if you you’re going to commit to y’s halfway through his prime you’re just going to commit to the second half now and say that’s that’s who we want to be the second star to joic is this guy and if you just look at the last five years bubble you make it rid of the Conference Finals he’s unbelievable he’s exactly what you need misses the next two comes back is exactly what you need you win a title was not nearly that this year so you look at that and go three years was a no two years was a yes is that what you’re investing in over if you give 50 million over 5 years are you investing in and two of those are going to be good three of them not and hope the two years that are good you win sure and I think really what it is is we’re talking about 12 it was a 12 game playoff run this year that were below the astronomical standard that he has set for himself in every other Playoff run basically so I think that that was the CF inury had so much more to do with it than than maybe totally allowing it to to say and maybe he was letting on so I just think you have to go off of really what has been the track record when he’s been healthy is that he’s the second most important player Sometimes the best player on any given night on a title team my my thing is Murray to me is exactly who the Nuggets need but Murray isn’t always Murray Murray has to be it and so your bet when you’re talking about maxing and yol’s career in Denver comes down to this one factor more than anything else is Jamal your guy my thing is are we sure he’s going to become that guy again I just don’t know I don’t know what motivates people and when they show me that they can a year where they are less motivated than what it takes I look at it just scares me I go well then is he he’s going to be next year though I’m I I still think there’s a better chance than not that he’s closer to playoff Murray next year next year’s playoffs and returns to that yeah next year’s playoffs but what about the regular season I don’t know but I just don’t think it matters it doesn’t matter it has in the past but yol’s getting old like yol’s getting old man right but I mean you could have this Jamal Murray in the regular season and still find ways to not ride Nicole yic is hard yeah that’s true there are many many many many ways to do that like maybe playing another guy with the bench that’s not uh Reggie Jackson or pton Watson or Christian Brown next to Jamal M that would work too um yeah I mean he I just think it’s a pretty easy answer right now it will determine like what happens in the playoffs next year like that obviously will s a lot that’s what everything’s going to be leading up to over the next 12 months pretty much 10 months like nothing that happens in the regular season it will be data points for sure but nothing’s really going to matter until the playoffs and we find out if Jamal Murray is who he was last year or if he was or if he is who he was in 2023 that’s what’s going to matter on on tomorrow’s show we’re going to have Jake coin on who always does a very good job finally a good guest we going to have Kyle coin on he’s going to be great can’t wait to talk tole tomorrow yeah maybe maybe Che back in tomorrow everyone yeah uh but one of the things that he he pointed out in his like offseason article was how long joic has gone without playing with another Allstar and how rare it is nobody has played as many minutes in their career without another All-Star now we know Jamal is that in the playoffs my point is but this is why I don’t think it’s just a but in the playoffs he’s there at some point point it’s like yeah man we asked this guy to be a superhero and he can do that in his 20s can he do that in his 30s as we get to our 30s hey also carry us all regular season and then in the playoffs go to the best player of all time level like no at some point I mean the the allstar like modifier is is I mean is it saying does yic have a good second player and he does have a good second player he just has not been technically an All-Star he is good enough to be an All-Star but he’s never started off a SE that there have been all these mitigating factors I’m not trying to make excuses for Jamal but it’s not you know it’s like saying like yic has been playing with a bunch of true cuz like some of these guys played with Jamal mcore and that was their allar that have a great they have a great team around yic right yeah and they are pot committed to peanut butter and jelly and it’s not a bad thing at all for all of this talk they still won 57 games last year and they the thing is that they are this is the first time that Murray has come up short um when something was expected of him like in the playoffs but he has come up short in the regular season and this is my point it matter no no but this is like the first time when it was like the Nuggets were expected to do something and they came up short like every other year they’ve been building towards something Murray got hurt he wasn’t in the playoffs this that or the other this is the first time when Jamal Murray has faced Tri expectation come up short and now people are looking at him like okay man who are you like we thought we know knew who you were and you showed us that we can’t rely on this idea of you so like who are you we’re going to learn obviously a lot about Murray this year but I think it’s very fair to assume that he is going to rise to the occasion um seeing that maybe the way that he approached it last year isn’t going to get it done anymore oh here was the here was the number I’m sure we’ll talk about this 450 games he has played without an All-Star in the season number two is Ben Gordon at 331 number three is Sharif Abdul rahee at 277 which is almost half as many as yic that’s the third most ever games played Without I mean if Michael Porter Jr and Aaron Gordon weren’t as good maybe Jamal Murray would be an All-Star right now cuz he’d have to score more I don’t buy that though cuz an All-Star will help you when your co-star’s not on the court like that that’s why I think this stuff is is fair is part of having a co-star is oh we can rest our best player and not worry about blowing 10-point leads in four minutes every time cuz we have second fiddle out here who’s least keeping us neutral or I’d like to see what those lineups look like and if it’s if it’s Jaylen Brown next to Payton Pritchard Luke cornette Sam Hower and insert another white guy from Boston that’s pretty much the Nuggets bench that Jamal Mur is playing with I I think that this this is the argument that I think so I don’t know if you can compare that really this is the argument that I think is very fair win and I think it’s a good one that some of this does in my opinion fall on Jamal and his inability to carry but not all of it some of it falls on whatever reason the philosophy of the Nuggets bench has been four bench guys some of them terrible and then just hope that somebody saves it and they don’t um all right let’s take a break on the other side we’re going to talk shoes oh finally and waiting Sho deals what would you do di if you got a shoe deal uh on the other side stay tuned stay tuned wera Credit Union founded in 1934 here in Colorado they have nine locations in the Denver metro area and they’re all about helping dad I have no idea if anybody’s going to buy these I guess if they look cool definitely outside the box to sign your dad to a shoe deal sort of interesting do you first of all do you what do you think of this so weird I feel like he could have just gotten him in lifetime supply Nike IDs why would you try to like sign the dad though like what is you’re trying to move shoes and it’s you’re I don’t know very weird one I mean it’s certainly I think it’s a really cool gesture I think it’s just more than anything it’s probably just a dad Thanks for Everything over the the course of my life let’s try to let’s try to see if people will buy this shoe that I’m you know that I’m let you know naming after you and that you’re designing other than that I mean I I don’t know what the uh the capitalistic gains would be just c a check I know this like the episode of The Simpsons where Homer got to design his own car and it bankrupt the company I mean this has potential to do that I will say I always thought there was no chance I’d ever get a shoe deal right I that’s still true no there’s a chance now I never knew of your daughters yoke loves the show he’s like you know what 361 asked me to make a a new dmvr shoe so you’re saying he’s jumping over pton Watson yeah he’s like get those guys out of here you got to get the MZ we’re getting weird yeah we need the mahz I will tell you right now if I had my own signature shoe it would be the air monarchs the ultimate dad shoe for Mo your lawn and it would be uh that could actually sell and it would be a little taller than other shoes a little taller every time we make a shirt out I’m like can we get it uh tall um probably not for my athletic exploits but like uh you know Action Bronson has his own shoe with uh with uh is that you yes just like action I’m In Action Bronson but I would like he’s got the baklavas he’s got a whole line with new New Balance I would like uh we almost we almost came out with a shoe last year we did yeah actually almost did have a shoe we almost came out with a shoe they would have been so sick would you buy the dmvr shoe probably we we had gold we had golden a shoes we were going to come oh they were actually so dope anyway they were like 400 bucks or I don’t understand what’s going on with this like when I saw this tweet come across I was like this is like something that you like you’re like Dad let’s do this together but you don’t like a big too how high was he when he thought of this idea I don’t know on on incense yeah were the wrong people to to really ask about that not the biggest shoe we need Dev here but I will say that the shoe game seems to have like we’ve I think we’ve passed Peak shoe there’s so many companies now and the interest are so divided so much more Global that I do look at this sometimes and I’m like I yolks like Squidward shoes and stuff or whatever everything’s so far a field now you know what I mean I just wonder if it’ll ever have that same thing but I don’t know signing a dad what are the air Harrison look like the aerison that’s a great question what do you think dine I think that they’re very um sturdy not too flashy uh a reasonable color probably a Navy with a white you can pair them with slacks you can pair them with a comfortable Jean yeah um they are really get the job done but they’re not going to try and uh you know be too flashy okay all right the the pragmatic ones I like that the prag ones dude I’m with it Colin what are your shoes looking like uh definitely something I flat feed so I need really good flippers this is how we all I I’ve my 30s now so I’m thinking about other things but yeah something to help my flat feet I mean certainly one something stylish I was going to say like I’m wearing them right now the New Balance 550s I got a lot of [ __ ] for it when I first started wearing dude I got I have that exact same shoe they’re so comfortable but our guys from Chicago came and after they were drinking a little bit they were like man those shoes should come with grass STS my and I was like about I was like you bastards you didn’t even know you’re talking I got so much trash for wearing them from my friends I love them they’re comfortable and guess what when Taylor Swift started wearing 3 months after I bought them I really smart I have all this information throw that right back out I think I’m right I think I’m back off shoes but I love those shoes but I didn’t see them as Dad shoes but I got called out for Dad they look a little bit like the monarchs which are the ultimate lawn why they said the L are a little more stylish D they’re a lot more stylish dude those like to think so I actually like what uh Devin Booker did with his shoes yes how those are very pragmatic yeah you can play in them but also wear them with just a pair of pants and they look they look fine they’re wearable all the court the only thing I like about Booker they were so pragmatic it’s incredibly pragmatic shoe that would be the type of shoe I would go for big surprise that’s incredible yeah I’m just saying man we might get a shoe deal at some point you never know we’re definitely going to get a deal had one yeah we literally had are you allowed to tell this story about the shoe uh Soul Savvy we had them as for a partner for a little while and they wanted to do a shoe with us and then like somehow or another the partnership fell apart but I had like done Air Force were they Air Force no they were like oh they had their own shoe that’s they yeah they had their own silhouette but they were like Loosely based on uh Nike Blazer oh okay and and I like put I like made the middle panel gold and I had like all of our icons that represented like embossed in the this would be the opposite of the shoe I would wear yeah be the opposite flashy shma but I was designing them more to be like trophies like You’ be like and now as time has passed and uh Donald Trump dropped his shoes that were gold I was like really DOD a bullet on that one Sho Trump drops to the next day the exact same looking like oh my God I was like maybe cancel that incredible K we have a super chat one sicko one sicko for break it into three regions the one where you break it into 20 different sub regions every single spot on the court he was below average from oh no he was pretty raw needed some seasoning where is he from Georgia Georgia yeah Georgia the other Georgia do you remember when he got Georgia original sounds do you remember like six years ago when he got added to the Clippers summer league croster somehow oh yeah I do remember it wasn’t that long ago they’re like skus feely the former fifth pit yeah you know third draft guy dra this was this is my dark probably some potential this is my dark air for the Nuggets where I wasn’t paying as close attention and so I don’t have any ski dis you just this is what I lived in Boston and it was on the Hills Dirk nitzky was new and everybody’s like 1. You missed my super chat again from yesterday. You got Josh's but missed mine again. Just my luck I guess

  2. IMO, you can’t replicate what Jokic does, what I think Nuggets need is an experienced point guard, like Chris Paul, who could play with the second unit and organize the offence as this is what Nuggets are missing when Jokic is on the bench. Murray is a shooting guard and tends to dribble too much at times. With ideal PG coming off the bench, you could play Joker and Murray longer together.

  3. Jamal is too inconsistent. He is injured way too often. I would absolutely trade him for a superstar…. but nobody is trading a superstar for a guy who's never made a single ASG.
