Jrue had to be the one to go due to contracts, Middleton was a UFA so he couldn’t be traded and I don’t think this trade could have happened a month or so into the season given Portland wanted to trade Dame before the season started.
Also, Middleton was awesome this postseason, like, best player in that series level good. His contract situation is better than Jrue’s extension because he has an opportunity to re-up for a lower yearly amount after this season. Like I could see 80/3 for him this offseason which would be great.

People need to stop with the uninformed takes. The Dame trade was basically to keep Giannis happy and Jrue was the only asset we had to acquire him. Did people just forget Giannis’ comments last offseason?
