As frustrating as it is to lose in that way, I do appreciate the strategic positioning that Dallas is implementing here. Any team that finishes as the 4 or 5 seed will have the privilege of playing okc in the second round (good luck). The ideal scenario for the Mavs is to finish as the 6 or 7 seed so they can avoid playing okc until the conference finals while also maximizing the value of their draft pick this year. The worse the Mavs’ record is, the higher the probability that their first round pick will produce an nba caliber rotation player. (A pick in the high teens would be great). This team has already proven that they’re comfortable playing playoff games on the road. So it’s ok to lose regular season games as long as you’re looking at the bigger picture.
Nuggets coach puts Gordon with their bench, coming off injury, but Mavs put Kyrie with starters, who finally had a good chemistry. Bad move by Kidd. He defers to Stars too much. Kyrie would've been fine with bench play, until he knocked the rust. Klay/Kai without Luka? Old. One of those 2 guys need to move to the bench, which needs help big-time
It's not Kyrie's fault. It's Kidd's fault for starting him, instead of bringing him off the bench. Denver is doing it with Gordon, as he returned Sunday from injury, monitoring his minutes. And that bolstered their bench big-time. Mavs bench needs help big-time too. It's on Kidd.
This pod clamored and cried for Derek Lively to be a starter all season. Said he'll be an all star. Kid is made of glass.
For everyone who defend Kidd… i'm old enough to remember Avery Johnson "carried" Mavs to the Finals and won a COY… But he was still a mediocre coach, watch what happens (and not happens) on the floor to judge a coach.
Mavs don't play good basketball and after 4 years i don't know what kind of offense is on Kidd playbook.
Is it too early to worry about the Mavs? Maybe they can still make the playoffs one way or another. Maybe Luka can become healthy at some point.

Lost Lively at 4min mark…not 8
Any conversation about the coach when the team shoots under 40% until garbage time is just stupid. The players are responsible for energy and effort.
You know in the Avengers movie when Dr Strange saw like 2 billion outcomes and the only one that saw success was a difficult path travelled? That's the Mavs this season. I hope all the adversity will strengthen us for their run to the chip! We are just currently at that part where Thanos beats on Captain America. Luka will be like "On your left"
This was basically Mavs without Luka, Kyrie and Lively against a good team. Plus, Murray went Luka out there, no rocket science as to why they lost so badly.
About motivation/effort, it may have to do with yet another important guy going down with injury. That must take a toll on everyone. Let's see how they handle it after the shock.

The mavs have GOT to improve their free throws. Tonight was an off night for the whole team, but the free throws are starting to drive me nuts. We have like 7 games where we lost by less than 5, probably gonna end with 10-12 losses by less than 5. We gotta fix the free throws man its 7-10 points a night they missing out on

Can we talk about how atrocious Maxi has been? He legit doesn’t even look to shoot anymore. Weakest pump fake into a drive ever and never knows what to do with it. His two things he’s supposed to be good at (3s and switch-ability on defense) he can’t do anymore. Frustrating to have him out there especially when the team isn’t playing too hard and PJ isn’t making his shots
I want Luka to return when he is completely healthy….unfortunately his body has sent him signals the last two-3 years. He has played by far too many games starting when he was 13. I don't want to have another Kawhi Situation here at the Mavs. And actually Luka is just too good to waste his career. If he is out till the playoffs start, I am fine with that. Even if that means that the Mavs have to go through the playins or miss the playoffs.
Playing 2 ways offense and defense is hard. Most of our players have it all set up for them offensively.
Now they have to set up offense, and then play defense. They were mentally cooked.
Need:
1) Gafford to play better
2) Lively to stop getting hurt
3) Kidd to take some control and manage the players energy/lineups/runs better than he has been
4) Open shooters hitting the open looks they do get, because quantity is down and they just have to maximize on the limited opportunities
I think we lost this game because the other guys had a sigh of relief that Kai was back. It looked to me like they expected him to go nuclear and carry them.
