The Timberwolves are an average team this year so far after the best season in franchise history. Many people are blaming the Karl-Anthony Towns trade so this is a look at what’s gone wrong with Anthony Edwards’ team.

The trade was never about the players on the court but the finances and cap situation. The Wolves had to get off a bunch of money long term. Yes everyone knows that Gobert is overpaid relative to his overall impact. But is defensive impact it not easy to replace. Furthermore his trade value is far less than KAT so Kat's bigger longer term deal was that far easier contract to move. Randle was the unfortunate cost of doing business but he will be moved relatively soon.
It still may not work out in the long term depending on the moves down the road, a lot will depend on the development of Ant and Naz. They will also need to figure out a replacement for Connelly fairly quickly he's pretty much washed at this point.

Just what I was thinking like were did he get that from lol. As a pistons fan the rumors have been det is unlikely to make a big trade. Plus min would have essential traded Kat for Dante and John Collins that might be the worst use of assets I’ve ever seen.

They should’ve kept Kat and let Gobert walk. Kat is an all round better player and aside from defense he has offense which Gobert doesn’t in the slightest.

Trading Towns 62% true shooting, for Randle's 58% may not seem like much. But, that's 8pts per 100 possession difference. About five points per 30 minutes.

Then, as you brought up, Randle needs the ball more to score. KAT is the better off ball scorer and compliment to Edwards in this sense.
I've always thought Randle Randle has turnover problems. He does however, not look dissimilar to Towns in this regard. But, this gets back to the on vs off ball. I wonder what Randle's points per possession are on his ISO attempts? Especially compared to Edwards and other stars.
Change means the lane is clogged more. Ant's Ast are down. & turnovers slightly up.
Ant needs to make another leap to be worthy of that superstar status. You can argue his play isn't good enough to be there yet. But, who knows. Maybe switching places with Shai in OKC would theoretically improve his numbers. And his offensive play will always suffer due to the mediocre spacing around him. In particular because of Gobert.

Randle is going to get traded soon. Him and Edwards don't have good chemistry. The whole team isn't good right now. Rudy Gobert should be traded because teams shoot 3's and stay in the perimeter more. Rudy is also not good enough on offense.
Kat should've never be traded he's dominting with the knicks. He's literally averaging 25.1 points per game. If Ant gets teamed then he needs to pass.

The reality is, we are talking about not a great franchise and not a great player in Ant. We believe they would be fine now with Kat, but we are assuming stuff that doesnt have any proof in the past. Yes they had a good playoffs run, like many other teams and allstars than disappear After a year.. they would be Better than this? Probably.. sure.. they would be a contender? A pretender Just like last year. They Needed to get rid of Kat.. we have already seen him and he isnt a winner..
Randle's upset because he's playing on an expiring contract on a new team. Not that hard to figure out. The Wolves only made the trade to duck the 2nd apron with no intention of paying him. They didn't even offer him a long-term extension that would still keep them below the 2nd arpon.
