I absolutely love Sabonis' offense and his skills would no doubt help us on that side of the ball. But his defense ain't it for the team. Especially given our recent acquisition of young talent. He'd be too pricey for not much in return

We are getting our centre of the future in this draft. Why would we do this? If it’s RJ and $ ok maybe. But I don’t think that’s the RJ chip. Sabonis is to expensive. We need a centre who is making 10-12 million, not 50. We would need to send a ton of salary out. Makes no sense. Khaman maluach or Derik queen are the choices. Derik queen plays a lot like Sabonis. Very similar games. And he will be under team control for 8 years minimum. If I’m the raptors I’m drafting Khaman or queen and trading RJ for something else

The Raptors could have chosen Sabonis during the college draft, but they chose Poetl instead.
Poet was then traded to SA for Leonard and the rest is history.

Honestly I wouldn’t even do it for yak and rj alone . Sabonis is like only a decently better then yak but makes more then 2x the amount. Also having to give up another starter in rj. Idk I would only do it if Keegan is included
Poeltl and Sabonis were in the same draft and we picked Poeltl just ahead of Sabonis. The main reason why we did choose Poeltl instead is because Poeltl came in for a workout and his lateral movement was measured to be elite. If Poeltl had a shot he'd be considered a top 5 center. Embiid was quoted as saying Poeltl was the best defensive center in the league.
They basically added every low draft pick team like give us your top 10 pick for DS. Hard pass on that contract.
